Everton (H) | Post Match Thread

We desperately need some genuine pace up front (especially in home games ) don’t care what anyone says we have missed Sterling in are last two home games .

Poor performance. The challenge on Haaland 20 seconds in set the tone, that game was difficult to watch and that's what Everton set out to do and they got their result.

We were poor. It followed a similar pattern to the Brentford game. We had a tonne of possession but it's all pass backwards and sideways and into the middle which is clogged up by the back 5-10 of the opponent. The inverted full backs are adding to that congestion, and then Mahrez and Grealish (who I thought played well today) both cutting inside amplifies the issue. It ends with us just relying on a magic ball from De Bruyne and he was off it today, 3 games so quickly together is to much for him at 31 years old, that's obvious to anyone and we appear devoid of ideas. We lack width to get the ball in the box to Haaland. Our full backs don't over lap, doesn't change with Walker or Cancelo in the line up, Gomez isn't ready and we don't have any wingers with pace at all. It's a worry as that's all we'll face at home is the same issue.

League isn't over, far from it but at this stage Arsenal are the best team in it, table at this stage doesn't lie and we need to pick it up quickly. The tough fixtures coming up will likely be the best thing for us.

Onto Chelsea now.

Too many players off form.

What isn’t helping though is that we’ve clearly dropped off our performance level since we stopped having 2 proper full backs on the pitch. Ake is good one on one defensively but you aren’t going to get any good forward runs from him. It makes us weaker down that side from an attacking sense and upsets the balance of the team.

We’re also conceding too many goals from minimal opposition attacks. We need to absolutely bombard the opposition to score whereas they need just a couple of half chances. Whether that comes from not having a settled defence I’m not sure.

Special mention to the referee today who completely aided and abetted the Everton time wasting. It was almost a ‘he’s behind you’ panto performance. I’m now totally for the World Cup style level of injury time being added on. Never mind 11 minutes being added on in part due to a referee technical issue, there should have been 11 minutes added on alone for time wasting.

We seem to be the only team that has to put up with this type of game.
I guess we are to good to come and play football against, so park the bus, time waste, foul, cheat and that's just the ref !.

After watching the world cup it's clear the standard of refs in this country is shit. Or the refs are under orders of a new league champion every 6 years.

We as fans pay good money and want to see a good game of football regardless of who wins. I guess for the clubs it's all about points and money sod the paying fans.

I would be happy'ish losing 4-3 than a boring 1-1 where the talking points are the anti football and bent refs.

Onwards and upwards, happy new year blues

The league isnt over

Tbh nobody can say Arsenal aren’t better than us. Right from the start of the season they’ve been on another level to everyone, even us. Only an injury crisis stops them winning it. They have a freshness, vibrancy and motivation that e simply haven’t got in our play.

Everton played well; dirty as hell, but intense. City's quality wasn't there tonight, but the lads fought hard.

Beside that terrible comical defending it wasn’t as bad performance but just average.
Avarez has to start on the right next game .Too many left footed players atm .

Why does he not play Phil.

Phil is I think our second highest scorer in the league this season. Whys he not playing.

Mahrez and Grealish offer zero goal threat. Mahrez a shadow of last season.

Front three should be

Alvarez Haaland Foden.
Mahrez has been dog wank since the start of last year. He has to go in the summer and I’m starting to think the same about Grealish. I want wingers who scare the shit out of full backs, neither of them do that.

Horrible game. Everton knew exactly how they wanted to play, in our faces from the first second. Disrupted the game, fouled, wasted time and the referee was almost as shocking as last game. We should expect this though and never looked like scoring a shed load. Still a lot of games to play but that one was pretty bloody crap.
Team looked like they needed freshened up albeit the subs didn’t make much difference. I’m afraid I’m not a huge fan of the Ajanji Stones partnership. They seemed not to know each other’s position for their goal. Stones left Gray to move inside, Akanji moved outside to cover the overlap. Gray was left on his sweet lonesome.
Arsenal don’t have an easy game. Come on Brighton!!!!

Any ex blue grace fat frank had is gone.

even Colin Wanker wouldn't stoop to the levels of cuntishness tactically.

put that with the lump of shite Andy Madley and that game was completely spoiled as a speticle.

Disappointing obviously. Silva gets lots of praise on here but he has been anonymous this season and has already mentally left the building. Running around a lot shouting and getting himself booked seems to be his main strength this season.
Not sure why Laporte and Walker are not starting?
KDB miles off today.
Their first shot and they score, desperately poor defending from us, the guy falls over and still has all the time in the world to get back up and pick his shot.
At least we didn't lose.
5 points dropped at home to the likes of Brentford & Everton is not title winning form. Next month of games could see us well off the top unless we start playing better.
I need to reflect a bit before a major assessment but yes the standard displayed today is well below the required level. The last 3 home games have followed a similar pattern with us scrambling around towards the end seeking a goal. Away form is perhaps a shade better with tests coming up against Chelsea and the rags. Margin for error is thin now particularly if Arsenal win tonight.

Tactics all wrong today imho. We didn’t need an inverted full back - we needed to get round the back of them. Lewis was outstanding, but he gets the ball in positions we want Kev on the ball in games like this. Kev was utterly wank but he was standing around wide on the half way line most the game. Not really where we want him. Cancelo should have played obviously. Fuckin all creativity with Kev not on the ball and Gundo, Phil and cancelo sitting on their arses. We’re going to win fuck all with John and ake trying to create. Not the end of the world but we could really do with Arsenal imploding soon

We're a slow team, badly needs to change can't get away with playing Mahrez and Grealish together there is fuck all on the break. Kev hasn't got the runners to play in and Bernie just doesn't carry a threat at the minute.

Fullbacks aren't over lapping either due to team selection and tactics. All just becomes very slow and predictable.

Look at the speed in which Arsenal attack its night and day atm.
