Everton - Post match thread.

We can with this year's new rules, if one of the yellows was for "simulation", diving, play-acting, whatever you want to call it.
But as the FA have already stated they won't be taking action against Calvert-Lewin or Sergio for either of the second yellows as there was contact, no matter how minimal, there doesn't seem much point.

So the new rule isn't worth the paper it's written on!

For me the 3-5-2 with wing backs just doesn't work with the players we've got.

There's very little width in that set-up and almost zero forward movement. Kun, Jesus, Silva and KDB all want the ball at their feet which adds to the slow laboured build up. It's weird because Sane and Sterling both excel with their off the ball/forward runs.

So this 'there was contact' stance from the FA...if someone pats someone on the back and they go down rolling like they've been shot...that won't be looked at as there was some contact? So basically, nothing has changed at all for simulation then?

Agree with this so far. We need to see if it works with Mendy though. He is brilliant at getting up and down and could make a huge difference. I am also not convinced with Jesus and Sergio together. I think all our best football in recent years has been with 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 when we swarm all over people in midfield..creating loads of chances.

But what's the point in having full backs who can bomb on when they'll be hardly anyone in support?

We'd be awesome with Mendy and Walker bombing on with Sterling and Sane being able to support in the box.

I just think that Sergio isn't the player he was. He tried to be too clever in that moment and thought he could feint and allow the covering defenders to go to ground.

We don't need 30 goals a season from Sergio, that won't win us the title this year.

What we need is five players all between 10 and 15 goals.
Not sure about that I think we need someone who gets the Golden Boot if we are to be title winners. I agree that the supporting cast need to chip in a bit more.
Having reflected long and hard on last nights performance I have come to the conclusion that we are likely to come up short again in the big games this year. Still time
to do business and get one or two in and they will be needed.

Ridiculous notion that Sane can't play as a wingback, because he made a couple of mistakes defensively or didn't have a spectacular game going forward.

If a couple of mistakes means you are not able to play the position, then we have no strikers, central defenders or goalkeepers at the club & our mids aren't good enough because of their final ball. They all make at least two mistakes every single game.

I guarantee, that every single fault Sane showed, will be replicated on occasion by Mendy, or Danillo. Maybe even in the very next game.

This should absolutely not cause a goal against, nor an inability to score at the other end.

I'm with you on this.

I think a young player with Sane's abundance of natural gifts should be able to adapt to playing wingback to a decent enough standard to fill in there on occasions. If he can't, he's not got the right stuff because he would have to be both awfully dim and cowardly. FFS, I was an extremely limited footballer compared but at his age I could play any position on the park reasonably well relative to the low level at which I played.

i disagree, having goals come from all over is what will win us the title this year. our play into condensed defenses doesnt bring more chances for our forwards. a lot of our best chances now come from the wingers or midfield coming from deep (or wide) positions without being picked up by the defense.
i would be fascinated if pep came out one game with a 4-6-0 formation and really fucked with the opposing managers head :)
