Ex City players scoring against us

In the late 90's we lost three games on the bounce - Huddersfield, Wolves and Stockport. In each game an ex-City player scored against us - Chris Beech, Michael Branch and Alan Bailey - Bailey scored the equaliser and won the penalty that beat us at Maine Road. You just knew it was going to happen, because that was "typical City".

Might need some help with memory here. We played Gillingham in about 2001. I remember everyone shouting we want Bob. Fat Bob came off the bench for them and they scored. I seem to think he scored it, but not sure, Am I right?

Googled it - We played them in 2001 at Maine Road - we won 4-1, The Goat got a hat-trick. We were 4-0 up, when Gillingham scored a consolation, but it wasn't Fat Bob it was Marlon King.

Eyal Berkovic

Berkovic gave Keegan some right old clog on the radio and tv after that game, telling everyone that Keegan was a clown and that he had been the best player every day in training but never picked.

I tend to believe that as he was class for City and still a class player when he left.

I wonder if he gave Keegan the old cut throat sign after he scored.

Kit Symons used to score against us while he was still playing for us quite a bit, and I'm sure he scored against us just after Kevin Keegan took him to Fulham. Decent bloke and an honest pro - just a bit shit.

-- Wed Oct 16, 2013 1:53 am --

Steve Lomas for West Ham in the FA Cup. Same game where Gio scored a wonder goal.
It was a long range shot wasn't it ?- the same as all the ones he never got anywhere near the target at Maine rd.

No-one ever mentions this but Symons was highly rated before he got here and the thought was that Ball, the clown, had done a shrewd bit of business. Also, and I don't think I'm making this up, for at least 6 months, he was getting decent reviews off City fans, despite the shocking results. After relegation though people had it in for him and his performances didn't do him any favours..

Always did seem like a decent bloke though, you're right.

Don't remember Symons scoring against us for Fulham or Palace.

I also remember him scoring in front of us at upton park in a 4-1 defeat. He went mental. Having said that he only has good things to say about us so I don't hold any grudge.

You are right - during that season Symons was said by City commentators to be the best centre half since Watson - and Immel also got a lot of praise. Even Frontzeck for the first few games did too. I remember it seemed to be Uwe and Quinny who got most stick for not performing.

Thanks for that. On reflection, I think he may have had a late chance and hit the post. Everyone cheered him, of that I'm certain.
