How do I format excel cells to give me the right answer

I have one elapsed hour 01:00 formatted hh.mm
I have a calucation of standard hours earnt
In this example: 56 mins or 0.93 hors

The efficiency against standard is therefore 93%

It's driving me mad I can't get the right answer.

theres a button at the top which will format to a percentage.

Failing that, right click on the cell, format cells, select percentage.

It's not the percentages though it is not showing right, it's the dividing of the hours.

How do I format 01:00 and 0.93 to give me 93%

I'm good with excel but I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve. Can you expand?

Ok if I run I have a fitness run that my target is 8 mins and I run it 7 times in my mind I have earnt 56 standard minutes

If I did this over 1hr my performance would be 93%

I have a spreadsheet where I enter the time I start training and stop this is my elapsed time.

For example:

Start 08:00
Stop 09:00
Elapsed 01:00 (formatted hh:ss)

The 8 mins standard is fixed in a cell in the spreadsheet

For this example I enter the 7 runs and excel calculates 56 mins
I want to divide this number by the hour above to give me a performance figure

56 mins as a decimal hour is 0.93

Therefore 0.93 / 1

=93%

How do I ensure the 01:00 hour and 0.93 are in the same format to divide as 0.93 or 93%

Thanks

I like your style. I'd just do the spreadsheet and open a can of lager and frig off the actually running bit.

To convert the elapsed time into a decimal time:

Say the elapsed time is in cell A1 then in the cell where you want the decimal time type

=24*MOD(A1,1)

Format this cell as a number

Divide your (56) minutes result by 60 to make it the decimal part of an hour i.e. 0.93 recurring...

then you can divide your 0.93 by the decimal hour.

Is that what you are looking for???

I agree. Though I wouldn't bother with the spreadsheet.
