What I do know though is that Tim Vickery speaks very highly of him, but worries that a PL move would be the wrong one for him as he believes he would suit the Spanish game more. The Fat el Hombre said:Hope it ain't Neymar, he's a toilet. Based on what? The best transfer the club could make, based on wow factor, shirt sales and of course ability, is Ronaldo. Proven here, arguably the best player in the world, (depending which camp you're in), and bang at his peak. Neymar would present an element of risk, and as above there are people in the game who doubt whether he could make it in the premier league. Sure everyone has heard of him and there would be a certain amount of wow factor, but that risk would still be there.LoveCity said:Neymar is the best signing this club could make (besides the impossible - Messi) no matter what the price.

Good post and I take alot of that on-board, but it does seem like most of the benefits are off-field ones?LoveCity said:Pigeonho said:Based on what?
The World Cup is around the corner and he is going to be the poster boy of it. If he plays for and represents Manchester City it would do unspeakably good things for the City brand.
He is only 20 and would cost around 1/3 of what Ronaldo (27, 28 in February) would and lower wages (while offering us many more years of service if he stayed) with the potential to make even more money - he was ranked as the world's most marketable athlete above Messi, Ronaldo, McIlroy, and Bolt (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.sportspromedia.com/notes_and_insights/neymar_is_the_worlds_most_marketable_athlete/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.sportspromedia.com/notes_and ... e_athlete/</a>).
He would also not have the stigma of other clubs attached to him like Messi (Barca) and Ronaldo (United/Real) do, Santos are a huge club in Brazil but the common man in England and much of Europe knows little about them. This would allow us to present Neymar as the face of Manchester City without anyone thinking of other clubs and his association with us as just cashing in on a pre-built asset.
The whole "can he hack it in the Premier League?" thing is nothing to worry about IMO, I have watched enough of him to know he could make it, the league has changed and flair/small players are proving up and down the Premier League they can do it (Oscar, Hazard, Silva, Cazorla, Kagawa, etc.). There are also an increasing amount of teams like Swansea and West Brom than Stoke. Neymar is one of the best natural talents I have seen in football and can be unplayable, he would take the piss out of most Premier League defences. I wouldn't rule out him needing an adjustment period but he would be ace. Even if he struggles here he would have great re-sell value because while he is a party boy, he does work hard on the pitch and his attitude is unlikely to lower his value (unlike a certain striker at our club).

Well it's subjective but like I said I think Neymar is an incredible footballer and there is a reason Barcelona and Real Madrid want him and are willing to pay £40million. United also wanted him but he's too expensive for them. He is pretty much a perfect footballer from what I've seen, you could put him on the wing and he'd do what a Robben or Ribery would because of his explosiveness, pace, and passing ability, or you could put him up front and he'd do what a Ronaldo or Falcao would do because of his clinical finishing and awareness. He will improve his body strength, remember how skinny and lightweight Ronaldo was and now he's a beast. Oscar came from the Brazilian league and has been a success but was not considered as good as Neymar, nor is Lucas Moura who United tried so hard to sign and PSG bought for nearly £40million.
I think we'll miss out on Neymar but if Txiki could pull it off it'd be a masterstroke, our Ronaldinho signing like they did at Barca. A young and fresh face to lead the City revolution.
