Explosion at MEN Arena/Victoria Station

Victoria station still closed "for several days" say northern rail. No update on Metrolink website since 6.45 yesterday. I can understand why the Victoria platforms needing bridge access might be part of the crime scene but the other platforms and tram are not that close.
I can understand the need to keep Victoria station closed while they gather evidence but I don't understand why they they can't allow trams and trains to go through without stopping and why Trinity Way needs to stay closed.

That's what I don't get?
He was 'known' to the security services..
What the hell does that mean?
If he was dodgy why was he allowed back in the country from Libya?
It's not fucking good enough!!
We deserve answers because this piece of shit has massacred children

I guess it's a scale thing. Resources are tight, police numbers have been slashed, prisons are over crowded. Today - with hindsight can the security forces round up every known suspect with links to ISIS - I suspect not - it would take months. Politicians spout but there has to be a change in approach - just targeting the Muslim community won't help - (internment in NI caused more issues and swelled the ranks of the IRA) we need to take the 98 per cent of good muslims with us and together root out the evil element but it's going to need a more comprehensive, well financed and joined up approach. People like Donald Trump - with his heavy handed rhetoric just makes the matter worse. This is not a war, the military can't win this, a stronger more inclusive society is the answer.

Politicians blustering
Elected Mayors waffling
The endless poetry

So long as all this carries on it will be allowed to happen unchecked, until our politicians grow a pair and actually do something to crack down on Islamist recruitment within our societies it will actually flourish in the coming years

Every time there is an atrocity no matter where. Totally indecisive!

Yer can make yer house as burglar proof as yer can but the determined will find a way.

"Round them up" is what we did in northern Ireland, it didn't work and we helped recruiting for the IRA. Lots of argument on here about religion being the cause or not. Also politics, oil? The one common aspect in so many confrontations throughout history has been that an element of society has felt disadvantaged in some way and a proportion of those have taken to violence to fight back. The sides in these arguments have had many different identifiers, Religion, political, power, food etc. On a much less relevant level you can include football. Disadvantage between clubs drives rivalry and we have even seen bits of that on this thread. Common sense needs to prevail through the fear. We did not lock up or throw out all English Catholics in the 70s and we need to show the same common sense now.

that isn't what hes suggesting and no ones saying everyone should be locked up. surely though if your a convicted terrorist, have links to isis or went to fight in syria then you should be in jail or be watched by the police.

3000 people of interest in the UK in regards links in some form to Islamic terrorism get shut of the lot of them no fcuking about!

I think suicide bombing started in Sri Lanka with the Tamil issue I think - so not just the Middle East and N Africa I'm afraid.

Yes I've never never suggested otherwise. You could have mentioned kamikaze pilots in the war.

I'm talking about these indiscriminate attacks on civilians that are occurring in europe. If they occur just because some people are inherently evil then the attacks wouldn't all be from the same demographic would they?

16 men from a 3 mile radius of Abedi's house have travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight for ISIS

This is Manchester 2017

So I don't believe this and looked it up.

It's massively out of context. It's not a 3 mile radius of his house but a 3 mile radius of a mosque in Moss Side. This story is months old.

That 3 mile radius is essentially the whole of Manchester which contains over a million people in it. 16 people in that is not a lot. There's probably 500 nonces in the same radius for example.

And they haven't travelled and come back, they're dead or are overseas.
