Extreme Away Days

Yes, the locals told us we had to drink neat vodka all day to stop us getting hyperthermia ;-)

I remember the locals passing us home brew over the stand and the hour wait before the Police (thousands of them) let us through the park back into town. It was cold but never realised it was that cold

Wettest- same as most people on here Oldham in that open end. It is the only game I have left at half time absolutely drenched.
I went to that match last minute, and, like you, was absolutely soaked. I got back to the car, stripped down to my socks and undies, as they were the only things dry, got in my car and drove home! Not a pretty site at the best of times, it gave the coppers nearby a good laugh though.

I also remember a match at Newcastle away for the same reason. and checked in the "History" section to find it was August 1969! We'd met some geordies in a pub in London after the cup final, and were invited to stay the night when we played there as a party had been arranged. It pissed down all through the match.
The lad's dad was a school caretaker and lived on site, so our wet clothes went in the driers after we'd changed. Don't remember the rest of the night though, so it must have been good!

Edit: that was 49 years ago! Where's the time gone?

Bollox to your fullest - York away - we were crammed in there, over 66,500 of us on that small bloody terrace.....
York was a bit full!!! 2 stick out for me though regarding being jammed in.
Stoke when Trevor Francis made his debut. Remember there being some great pics of the City end when he scored.
Other one was Peterborough in the 81 Cup run. 8000 (out of 28000) City fans crammed into a small end and a paddock down one side. Tommy Booth header to win it.

Notts County away in 1985 was rammed.

Looking for views about your away day experiences. Of those games you have attended, which was the fullest or emptiest, furthest or closest, scariest or friendliest, first or last, best or worst?

I will kick us off with two offerings:

Coldest - April 1989 - Shrewsbury, night league match, bleedin' freezing, my shocking Mini Metro wouldn't start after the game, last out of the car park by a long stretch, good job we won 1-0 (Morley)

Worst - March 2007 - Blackburn, FA Cup, lost 2-0 to a mediocre Rovers team, Blues fighting with each other on the way out. The depressing day when it finally dawned on me that unless something unbelievable and wholly unforeseen was to happen, City would not win another trophy in my lifetime

Worst - United away 2009. Went with my mate for a freebie on his season ticket - front row. I was sat there snuggly as Bellamy but it in the top corner taking the Micky out of my mate next to me. Next thing, City defending awfully, Michael Owen slots it past Shay Given and scores. Michael Owen ran to where I was sat and slid on his knees felt like a kick in the balls. United fans around me rushed onto Owen including my mate and I haven’t heard the end of it since!

Coldest- Kiev -16 and Balotelli had his allergy to grass.

Thankfully taken under the wing by fellow blues that day - brilliant afternoon drinking cheap as chips beer while wandering.

I remember a guy asleep at the back of our seats and thinking wtf - how could he sleep in this cold
