hardly any sound on windows media player and you tube ....... anyone come across this before?

Even my Windows log-on tune appears to have vanished!

All volume levels are set to high that i'm aware of , yet very little sound is coming out ..... it's as though there's a plug-in missing , or something ......

i've tried everything ...... Realtek sound card/drivers appear to be in order , no yellow exclamation marks in device manager against anything ..... downloading codecs has no effect .. have uninstalled and reinstalled flash player etc

there doesn't appear to be any problem with spyware , and i just can't fathom it out ?

do you have a front speaker jack as well as rear you could swap to test ?

is it onboard sound card or external (added card) ?

Headphones you can try ?

and tho this may sound silly, have you got the jack in the right socket, not saying yer thick but on times ive moved my shit around i have plugged it in the wrong socket.

try this site for a quick overview of system and out of date drivers, it a reliable one thats doesnt just run a scan

Thanks for that 'sprout' , i'll give that scan a go .....

the speakers i have are factory built into my 'Hanns G' monitor , and are connected into the back of the tower by a single lead (light green) ..... it will plug into the front of the tower too , but once again only manages to deliver minimal volume ...... you have to put your ear right up to the monitor to hear it!

It isn't the best computer system in the world admittedly , nor the costliest , but the sound was fine up until a few days ago , then it suddenly dropped for no apparent reason.
