strange poster, that one
He asked if it was wrong to appoint Pep, I never changed the narrative. I gave my answer and justified it. You seem happy with the mediocrity served up by Southgate, I am not. Let's leave it at that shall we?Don't see what's strange
Club managers get way more opportunity to win trophies than International Managers
He’d have given that referee a fucking good talking to last night :-)Could you imagine if the dart fell on the name of Colin Wanker ? :-)
I thought Steve McClaren had already had a dabble
Well, we have gone backwards. We got to the semi last time.Worth noting that Brazil are out too, and it wasn't too long ago that they got battered 7-1 I think it was, in a world Cup semi.
Point is I don't agree that we've gone backwards, the annoying thing is we could have won all three of these last three tourneys with the right manager. Problem is the media bang on about how well he prepared for matches yet all I see are the same faces playing in exactly the same way, and players that do come in have to adjust to the negative way they play.
The stage is always the same though, the round might be differentYou don’t have to be a prediction genius to think England won’t win the WC and we’ll fall short at some stage
I’ve constantly repeated that I don’t think we’ll win the WC even if you have the best manager and players, tactics etc because tournament football means anything can happen - which is exactly what happened yesterday - Lloris had a blinder, Ref was crap with a few decisions, Missed penalty etc - it’s such fine margins and we deserved to win - that’s football
No different to City in the Champions league Is it ?
Just because we’ve not won the WC in donkeys years shouldn’t mean we should automatically be negative towards England every tournament
No manager should be praised or criticised based on one game. Just his body of work.I dislike Southgate as much as everyone, but like I say I find it hard to criticise last night. I thought we were very good and deserved to win. He should still go, but like I say I thought last night was a very good performance
Only gone backwards if you neglect the bigger picture. Not a fan of Southgate at all but we looked much better in this tournament than the previous two. However, he’s still not beaten a team that are our equal or better in a tournament. That French team is better than Italy and Croatia who beat us the other 2 times.Well, we have gone backwards. We got to the semi last time.
The fa won’t get rid of him he licks there ringI would say to those who are advocating getting rid of Southgate be careful of what you wish for.
I wasn't keen on his appointment and was pretty sceptical but he has won me over to the point where I would say if he feels he can carry on improving this team he should be given the chance.
People forget what an abject state the team was in when he took over. We were not poor we were awful. The National team was a joke and a shambles.
Since then in three international tournaments he has qualified for all three without a hiccup. In all three of them we have made reasonable progress and only been beaten by our failure to take penalties twice in a shoot out and once in real time.
Much has been made of his lack of club success and tactical awareness but I see little evidence that these attributes have brought England greater success when we have appointed such managers. In this World cup Spain Holland and Germany have all had managers with extensive club success and champions league medal winners their teams are broadly comparable with ours and have players who would walk into our starting XI. We have probably performed better than all of them. the fact is I suspect with the preparation time available to managers deep tactical planning is of limited benefit at International level.
The accusation that I disagree most with is that he is some kind of FA stooge or Shill. The FA did not want to appoint him they appointed Allardyce he did not accept the job straight away and only took it conditionally.
Since then he has fully backed his players when taking the knee against opposition from some supporters, much of the popular press and some government spokesman there is no way that that was the FA's message, that was his leadership and decency.
Very few of the self aggrandising managers that had preceded him in the job would have done that.
He has the backing of his players that will go far in international management whether he feels he can go further I don't know if he does I back him to try if he does not he has built a fantastic platform for whoever follows I am though sceptical that it will be easy to find a manager who will improve on his performance.
Of course he doesn't his backing of the players over taking the knee against the opinion of the popular press some of the government and a section of the suport is something that the FA would have been terrified of.The fa won’t get rid of him he licks there ring
and they looovveee that
Did you notice in the 2nd half when Henderson suddenly pressed like mad, but all alone, and when he realized it he gave Foden a bollocking? I mean, I liked the pressing, but it appeared totally uncoordinated. Almost as if there were no plan, and each player just did what he was used to from his club. England need a playing identity, a game plan. It is not enough to just select 11 players from different systems and let them get on with it.
They should have qualified without a hiccup.I would say to those who are advocating getting rid of Southgate be careful of what you wish for.

Giroud played like a no 9 and Harry played like a 10. Could be one reason i suppose.
It was, 25 years ago or whenever it was.I’m not a great fan of Southgate but it wasnt him that missed the penalty ..
