The Football Association will investigate suspicious betting patterns in the Conference South
The Football Association is to contact every club in the Conference South after being made aware of 'suspicious betting activity' on a number of matches played in the league.
The national governing body and the Gambling Commission have launched an investigation into the claims and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
Details of the specific matches under question have not been revealed.
A statement issued this afternoon by the FA read: 'The FA and the Gambling Commission have become aware of suspicious betting activity on a number of matches played in the Football Conference South.
'Following recent communications with the Gambling Commission, The FA, in conjunction with the Football Conference, is contacting all clubs playing in the Football Conference South to advise them immediately of our concern about this suspicious betting activity.
'Clubs have also been asked to remind their players and officials of their responsibilities under the betting and integrity rules of The FA.
'Anyone with any information regarding possible breaches of these rules has been advised to come forward to The FA or to the Gambling Commission.
'In the meantime, we are continuing to work together with the Gambling Commission’s Sports Betting Intelligence Unit in further assessing the evidence regarding these suspicious betting patterns.
'The FA will be making no further comment on this matter.'
The Conference South consists of 22 teams and is two steps beneath the Football League.
Football's governing bodies have been especially keen to be seen to be cracking down on corruption since European anti-crime agency Europol announced on February 4 that around 680 matches were suspected of being fixed in a global betting scam run from Singapore.
