Facebook crack down on fake news campaign targeting City

No one has heard of the 'Mirror Herald' because it is a construct rather than an actual media outlet. It's just like when you get one of those marketing research calls which are clearly from India and you are asked to believe the bloke with the heavy accent on the other end of the line is called 'John Smith' or some other quintessentially English sounding name.

So how do we measure its influence because, if I understand this correctly, it will rely on others to be influence by its message and quote it etc?

Haha, and again the pseudo-intellectual strikes,

We measure it's influence by the exact same method of influence, although used on a much larger scale, being used to win Trump the presidential election, which is still under investigation and one of the reasons he was impeached.

You are on a roll for showcasing your intellect this fine morning/lunchtime.

Lots of questions I'd love to know the answer to. When Pinto "acquired" these emails, and I think most of us agree that he wasn't acting as a "lone wolf", there were apparently so many that he had to hand them over to an international collaboration of "journalists" called the European Investigative Collaborations Network (EIC) for analysis.

The question is, why would an extortionist do that ? It seems bizarre to me that he would keep some information to himself (or did he ?) but ring up the EIC and, presumably, say "hello, is that the EIC ? I've been hacking lots of computers and I've got some information you might like to analyse, tons of it, in fact. Yes, don't worry I'll email it over. No, don't worry, I won't charge you for it".

Who paid this 'collaboration" of journalists ? Over 60 journalists in 14 countries apparently. How did they divi up the emails ? How did they divi up the scoops ? Who paid them whilst they waded through terrabytes of material ?

I don't suppose we'll ever l know but someone, somewhere does and eventually they'll talk.
Or maybe we found the smoking gun...

hahahahaha

i was talking to my son yesterday about bruno fernandes in the team of the year ? and said give over your joking ?? its a war and the fight against any manchester city success that will be masked by the media. could you imagine sheikh mansour buying united instead of man city ? that's the paranoid they talk about with man city fans ?? ten years of fighting the scum and we still don't seem to be winning
The rags have had a little help...

True, but I agree with him that there's got to me more to this than just allegations of sportswashing. Speculating about someone's motivations is allowed in the media, and it doesn't make something fake news. If I say "Trump only said that ridiculous thing to deflect from the shit job he's doing" it's an opinion, not fake news. So there must be specific false allegations.
There's nothing wrong with having an opinion but it isn't valid unless it is based on facts.

Well come on then explain how this makes every media organisation, journalist, garth crooks, gary neville, martin tyler, niall quinn, martin Keown, andy Hinchcliffe, the fa, people pulling the balls out for fa and carabao cup draws, every ref and everyone else accused of being part of the Agenda complicit?

No one would dispute from what has been written it looks like this organisation the Mirror Herald is a qatari plant but that is a million miles away from what has been stated as an agenda on here.

The problem on here is people use broad strokes to taint all, which, imo, devalues the genuine grievances with certain journalists because it easy to brush it off as paranoid.
I agree with most of this. It all depends on your definition of the word agenda. It is clear that Qatar and Abu Dhabi are involved in an information war so you could argue that Qatar has an agenda against Abu Dhabi which impacts on City. You could also argue that United and Liverpool have an agenda against City because of commercial and personal rivalries.
There have certainly been smear campaigns against City from various sources and a lot of skullduggery and corruption has been involved. It doesn't mean that all these campaigns are joined up. But what it does mean is that we have a lot of powerful enemies.
The Rags and Liverpool FC will take any opportunity to knife City in the back. For example I think it is very doubtful that these rival clubs were involved in the Rui Pinto hack but they have certainly enjoyed fanning the flames behind the scenes. LFC were certainly behind the letters to the Premier League and UEFA, and United have been pouring poison into journalists' ears about City for at least the last decade.

i wont embarrass the poster but i have lifted this from my agenda thread a few years back

"There are individuals working in the sporting media who don't feel warmly to a club who have been grown artificially through outside funding. Sometimes that shows in their work. But there is no conspiracy within the media to deliberately insult Manchester City. That sort of fundamentalist thinking comes from the fact that a football club viewed from within becomes all-consuming. It distorts the external world like a prism, so we get ridiculous theories that some irrelevant missed caption or comment on a radio show is somehow significant."

oops.
