To be fair, it seemed it was either us or real madrid and they'd hardly want to have pissed us off and Kun to go to them would they?
 
They were cornered, he refused to go back to the club. But we do have good relations with them which helps a lot. Also, Spanish clubs aren't as slimy and cunning as Italian and Brazilian clubs.

With the exceptions of Barcelona and Real Madrid

Athletico needed to move him on to another club out of Spain, otherwise his fee would have been alot less. We more or less met the release clause in his contract. They're also skint so it was a no brainer and they would have been stupid to risk the deal and try to haggle the price upwards
 
It would be harder for them to start an auction for him anyway because of the release clause in his contract, but yeah, they do seem to have made things easier than they could have to be fair.
