Falcao or Suarez

Manchester City contact Anderlecht over £18m move for teenage sensation Romelu Lukaku

Manchester City have made contact with Anderlecht over teenage striker Romelu Lukaku to say they are ready to meet the £18million asking price.
The 17-year-old has been the subject of strong interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea, while Arsenal have also watched him extensively, but Anderlecht's valution has left a limited market with City ready to flex their financial muscle if they can convince him to move to Manchester.

We were linked with him when he was at Anderlecht as much as anyone else

If true then that's idiotic! For the record I would love Suarez at city. Number 2 choice for me after cavani.

This.

He might be a maniac but we need his goals, especially if we miss out on Cavani.

Then again we could build around our current strikers and maximise their abilities to what we can.
Aguero has scored 3 fewer league goals in 14 fewer games. Generally accepted that he's not clinical. He also hasn't racially abused an opponent before, as far as I'm aware.

Suárez is quality but definitely up for debate as to whether he's a clinical striker.

It's not up for debate wether Luis Suarez is a clinical goalscorer, he isn't by any stretch. However Suarez in our side would add 1-2 goals per game wether he scores them or others do, the lad runs football matches on his own an creates so many chances for himself & teammates.

In a top team he would be pretty unplayable. Don't think we will sign him though, but if we don't get Cavani like the lad above said he would be my 2nd choice, hes the only other potentially attainable striker who would improve our first 11.

Don't really need to adapt Chelsea's transfer policy then do we?

London is just more attractive to a young, millionaire footballer.

I don't think it's as clear cut as that, Matt. We already create so many chances, and I appreciate the panic that Suárez causes I'm the box but:
a) we scarily haven't seen the best of Aguero yet who can do just the same.
b) Suárez, in my opinion, really isn't worth the trouble.

Chelsea quite obviously target and sign a consistently higher standard of player,so yes, they have a better policy.

Highers standard than us?

Agree that we create a lot of chances in some games that we haven't put away (Swansea away being the most recent example). But there were also a lot of away games this year where we created very very little (QPR, Southampton, Everton, Chelsea, Wigan in the final).

IMO a clinical goalscorer is a necessity, but IMO Falcao an Cavani are the only 2 out there who will be available this summer. Falcao is going Monaco, so I'm hoping we get Cavani. But like I say if we miss out on him I'd go for Suarez for what he could bring to the table other than just goals.

But take your point about the trouble, can see why you wouldn't want him.

Yes they are better at signing a consistent quality, rarely do they sign a pup.
Boulahrouz - £12m
Shevchenko - £40m
Di Santo - £4m
Belletti - £5m
Malouda - £17m
Bosingwa - £18m
Deco - £9m
Zhirkov - £18m
Benayoun - £6m
de Bruyne - £7m
Meireles - £12m
Wallace - £5m
Marin - £7m

That's £160m, spent on players of a "higher standard" than ours. Not even taking into account there fantastic policy of spending £50m on Torres.

Ah touché

Fantasy Island, spoken like a true knee jerker....

Well if choose to go that far back........ I am talking in recent times, they have nailed their ability to sign quality. We are still buying too much mediocracy as is evident by our squad depth.

However,if we are going to look at past signings from years gone by then we still come second best.

Nothing knee jerk,just fact.

Add Veron and Crespo, Mutu & Kezman to that list.

Well, the initial post you agreed with stated the past "3-4 years", also, it's hard to NOT go by past signings..
