Having a discussion with the present wife at work today and we got on the subject of the above....
She says her mum went to school with some of the Hollies and with Elkie Brookes, my mum reckons she went to school with Amanda Barry ex Carry on and Corrie and a mates dad years ago reckons that Salford has, per head of population, more famous people and stars etc than any other city in the country. I'm sure that Robert Powell is from Salford........anyone else

Saw the brilliant Elkie, along with the equally brilliant Robert Palmer, performing as Vinegar Joe in the late sixties at some dingy club in London.
They were supporting Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and were fucking outstanding, one of the best bands I've ever seen.
