Fantastic social experiment.

If I'm annoyed watching that then you must be fuming Hakeem.

Hahaha happens all the time Sam just glad someone has shown it in a way others can see clearly.

As stated in other threads, it's mostly based in poverty ;)

In fairness, if they had used a skinheaded white guy with tattoos, the guy would have had nearer the same amount of questioning.

What gave the impression the black guy was poor? He was polite, well spoken and respectful.

You've not been taking notice of the other race related threads on the forum.

I know this stuff happens but quite a lot of it is a bit 'chip on the shoulder'. I've been stopped in stores and walking the street by the police and I'm so white that I'm almost transparent.

Yep and being a big guy that shaves his head, I doubt, from experience, I would have been questioned in the same manner.

I'm fuming at that. Cheeky fuckers.

That'll be the reason.

Interesting.

I remember a documentary series the BBC did a number of years ago on a similar theme. A white guy and black guy went around various places in Bristol ( I think ) pretending to rent a flat, buy a car, book a hotel room. That sort of thing. The different reactions they got was very revealing.

I somehow ended up playing football with the black guy one time in Chorlton and had a chat with him afterwards about the series. To say it was disturbing would be an understatement.

I'm sure that clip is a few years old, but nonetheless it's still very powerful. Or maybe they have re-jigged this test in a slightly different way cos I remember it being a little different.

When I first watched this type of test, there were people helping the White kid get through the lock without doubting he had 'lost his key', whilst the Black kid with the same story was asked for proof repeatedly!

I am bemused by it all, still.

For me this isn't a Race issue, more so a Class issue and how people are perceived based on their bank balance.

if the Blonde girl had loads of tats, messed up hair and resembled a Crack whore the people passing by would grip her, regardless of race.

The area looks very affluent didn't you notice? like alot of the people passing seemed middleclass, retired types in a predominant white community.

Poorer areas = middleaged people who can't exercise much.
This video = 60+ yr olds cycling and jogging, haha....

Always remember this line from a track years ago

"White or black, break in my flat and get your neck snapped"

Still take this view...

I don't get it.

They have clearly bypassed a 'class' issue by dressing everybody in the most similar type of outfit for their ages. So that 'class' argument goes out the window. Note that each of the protagonists were acutely respectful to their audience, of which there is no better way to demonstrate 'class', outside of it being an affluent area(and entirely why the setting was placed in that area). And, by the way, none of the protagonists are in anyway different, other than skin colour, so you can't compare a 'crack whore' looking type in this discussion.

What's left is visual perception outside of clothing.

The interesting thing about this is the direction correlation to what people have been banging on about in the 'racism' thread where scores of people have said 'if this was the opposite way round it would be classed as racism', but where are there scores of people responding on this thread...??

Hm.
