Favourite opening day matches and memories?

I was interviewed by Kevin Day for MOTD2 that day. They wanted to do a 'before and after', getting my thoughts before the game, then again at the end but they didn't make it to Upton Park before kick-off.

So I had to do two sequences after the game, one where I pretended it was before the game and the other knowing the result. So we started with the before interview, where I looked nervous and talked about a new start and needing loads of new players to bed in, before predicting a draw. Then they moved around so there was a different backdrop, I changed the position of my sunglasses and, two minutes later, we did the after interview.

Great day.

well that’s ruined it for me.

Was at many of the aforementioned. Also honourable mentions for Watford in 2001, 3-0, Keegan’s first home game, including debut goals for Berkovic and a thunderbastard free kick from Pearce. Think Watford under Vialli were second favourites to go up.
Coventry away on Curle’s debut, a classic Quinny header to win it

Yes, dont think we had kept a clean sheet the season before, away from Home, and Curle was marshalling the troops from the first minute to the last. Quinns looping header seemed to take an age to hit the net also. The next couple of matches Liverpool and Forest at home were fantastic also. A young frank started his first chant that day as a 15 year old after the match.

West Ham away under Sven was a great opening day. All the new signings (Elano, Petrov, Bianchi, Bojinov, Garrido) plus a core of youth players (Richards, Onuoha, Johnson, Ireland) made for such a exciting, promising team. A welcome new style of play after the truly dire Pearce era.
If I remember right Bianchi scored the first goal as I had a few quid on him ..
