Perhaps it was, it was brilliant, but shaded for me by Bernardo Silva.I think that was his best ever performance for us last night.
See my post later on, we have a 24 year old who maybe can be that and more, our best player last night.Just wish he was 23 not 33.
My lad said this last night too, which is why I think Bernardo's performance last night could be pivotal, many thought he would be David's replacement, maybe not :)Something very interesting about Fernandinho for me is that when we signed him he was more of an attacking midfielder,
That occured to me watching Bernardo in the first half. He was playing for good periods as a DM, on the right side of Fern. He showed he has the workrate, the control and the passing ability. He also showed a nice aggressive streak and an ability to mix it with the big boys. I particularly enjoyed his kung fu interception in the second half. What a bloody engine he must have. He was going with the same intensity at the very end.Perhaps it was, it was brilliant, but shaded for me by Bernardo Silva.
Everyone wonders where and how we will replace Fernandhino, maybe we saw that last night, not the same player, but the same work ethic. Bernardo cleaned one of their players out on the touchline in the 94th minute, fabulous.
Back to Fernandhino though, he has long gone underrated by many City fans, but a number of us have consistently said he's one of the best City players ever, last night (and the 3 games he missed recently) shows those who didn't believe, just why. His passing ability often goes under the radar, because we have better passers, but its still bloody good, and none of those "better passers" can do what he does in the so called dark arts, maybe Bernardo can be that man (still only 24) ?
Although Bernardo contributes a lot on defense, playing him at DM would be missing out on his sublime ability to create as AM.That occured to me watching Bernardo in the first half. We don't have to play with a DM, and that was my point above, you can find another way to play, with the right players.Although Bernardo contributes a lot on defense, playing him at DM would be missing out on his sublime ability to create as AM.
For many games - and especially in our system - that's certainly true. But against top sides - a ball-winning DM who can sense danger and can break up play - is - if not essential - certainly very helpful. We don't have to play with a DM, and that was my point above, you can find another way to play, with the right players.
Absolutely, but at 24 he can still learn that, remembering that Fernandhino is nearly 10 years older, basically came here as a box to box midfielder, and still improving. Bernardo can learn from him "on the job", and he certainly has all the attributes. For many games - and especially in our system - that's certainly true. Bernardo has the motor to play deeper and break up play - but I don't think he has the defensive nous that Fernandinho has.
Perhaps so - but Bernardo's skill set - for me - is very much CAM - a position at which he already excells. Bernardo's passing range is a short one-two, or deft dink. And he's got a very good shot on him. I think that Bernardo will play AM for us - which for me, is his best position. Fernandinho's skill set is unique in our side - and we really need to sign a replacement for him ASAP.Absolutely, but at 24 he can still learn that, remembering that Fernandhino is nearly 10 years older, basically came here as a box to box midfielder, and still improving. You don't want to limit a player of Bernardo's strengths by playing him as a DM, a player like him has to play in the attacking third
I’d be interested to hear how you think that would improve the team’s balance and overall effectiveness.
