No it’s not
It is, the same way people are kidding themselves if they think Lavia is delivering anywhere the kind of performance IN THE EDS needed to be a Fernandinho replacement starting next season. No we will need to go to the market for that one too

The point though is not all of us rate Torres that highly

He was adapting into the 9 role and we can never know how he would have fared with time this season. He had one season to settle and now would have had more game time. He has been injured for awhile. The penultimate game before his injury took his national team to a Nations League final. To say you prefer Palmer or McAtee over him at this point is an over exaggeration. There is at this point a gap of quality and experience. There is a reason why Barcelona has decided to make Ferran the guy to elevate them. Which major European club would have thought that of Palmer or McAtee?

The problem is the standard it sets. Now it’s very easy to leave. For a manager that loves rotation as much as he does, that’s asking for trouble. And if someone comes in with an offer from a club that isn’t Barcelona and hears a no, it will stink.
Btw Ferran wasn’t unhappy. There wasn’t a single article saying this. There was an article two days ago saying he would happily stay and fight for his place if he weren’t allowed to leave

You like to believe your articles.
I believe pep and have just today listened to his full interview where he indicated strongly that ferran went to see him and said he was unhappy and wanted to move.

And I do rate Torres , very highly

There is no doubt Torres was seduced by the call from Barcelona and probably higher wages and more game time. However, he has been being paid for not playing due to an injury he worsened by forcing to play the Nations League final. Pep could have said, You can leave, but in the summer. We will need you for the remainder of the season. What would have happened, he would have gotten into depression?

Why would Pep keep someone who doesn’t want to be here, he has been very clear on his thoughts on this since he arrived.
No one has a clue what Torres was going to do.

Please don’t make jokes about depression. That is a disgraceful comment.

I have no idea of the depth of his unhappiness, but here is the thing neither does anyone else.
Basically you are saying pep has made the wrong call, I trust his decision making as he is there experiencing the situation.

Let's revisit it at the end of the season and see if pep or Gus got it right.

I think people are mistaking a player wanting to leave under the circumstances (Barcelona calling, higher wages) with being unhappy and not wanting to be here. Those are different things. You can ask of a player to stay six more months, it’s not the end of the world. He is leaving because Barcelona can’t afford to not qualify to the UCL.

I am not saying the season will be a disaster because he is leaving. However, one of the reasons people like to say that we don’t to business in January is because we usually get what needs to be done in the summer. Well, we already failed to get a striker in the last window. But what was said here by multiple posters was, At least we have Ferran, he had a season to settle, he perfected the 9 role. And now this one unique player in the squad is leaving and APPARENTLY not a single one is coming. So excuse me if I don’t think that is a wise decision. What happened so far in the season plays no part in what happens in the second half, which historically could be much more difficult. Of course it could also be easier: we could leave the UCL earlier and without that and the Carabao in the schedule, handling the season becomes easier. We could also miraculously be spared of injuries in the next five months. We could have our rivals in the PL losing several games unexpectedly and giving us an easier run. All this could happen, sure, and then you will come at the end of the season and say I was wrong. But you don’t plan for that scenario. Our greatest strength is squad depth and we are gambling with it in several fronts

Your right
We have obviously missed Torres since he got injured
I wish we were top of the league and had won our champions league group but for now we’ll soldier on and hope for an upturn in form
Season isn’t over yet mate and we there’s a good chance we will need the goals that Torres would have scored .

I’m not mistaking anything, if I was offered more money and a guaranteed starting spot I’d soon be pretty unhappy if I was blocked from going. If he wasn’t unhappy before it doesn’t matter.

I don’t think Pep is in the business of begging Torres to stay on for 6mths, Pep would rather put his energy into coaching those that want to be here.

That being said, Torres could have done it himself out of loyalty and thank Pep for giving him the chances he has.

Good luck to him at the circus that is Barca, he is going to have the shock of his life when he rocks up and his partner upfront is Luuk DeJong.

Good job on ignoring the depression comment.
