So City have decided on 50m euros and Barca want to pay. All good?
You can think its a low price all you want, City don't or we would have let it out in the media he is off the table and thats that. Speaks volumes we haven't.

In fairness, the claims in the media are that we are looking for 70m. The 50m is what barcelona press are claiming they think they can land him for. If they can even offer that. There is no need for us to get drawn into conducting this through the media imo, particularly without any real offers coming in.

Youbare right though, whatever they decide to accept will be seen as good enough by them, no matter what we think.

A few half decent journalists have mooted that its the price tag and Barca are working towards it. If it was 80m or 10m we would also know.

Of course, nothing is official but all the rumours are that its around that price tag and if we aren't denying it then it makes me inclined to believe it
Let's see what happens, however it seems like Torres is on his way, I appreciate not every signing works out, but I had high hopes for the lad so I will be sad to see him go. The most important thing is we use the Torres money to partly fund the purchase of a top quality striker

If this was a spurs player they’d be having media say we want a certain amount or he is going nowhere! The way the Barcelona media are reporting is we told them we want €55m and it’s edging towards that with addons.

We don’t know if that’s true or not because city don’t let any of the media know what fee we want.

if we really told them it was 55m, supposedly down from 70m previously claimed, why the fuck would they he edging towards it, surely they would just offer it up and be done with it.

They are edging to it because it is still likely close to 70m, and going any higher now gives them little to bargain with later on.

We haven't denied we want 50m euros either. This can go on all day, we will soon find out if he leaves.

Barca will leak it immediately.
Yeah, that was my point mate. We haven't said anything, so taking a lack of denial of 50m as evidence is nonsense

We are usually quick to deny things though is my point. So if the whole of the football media is reporting this 55m euros or whatever and we haven't reacted then it to me says we are at the table, the figures might not be right but clearly we think a deal can be done otherwise we wouldn't bother. The fee will also surely be in that region, we aren't going to sit there and say we want 100m knowing full well Barca have 50m, makes no sense.

We are not though. The opposite. We rarely get drawn into it.

I have no doubt there is a deal to be struck, and that we wouldn't stand in his way for an acceptable offer.

The 50m or 45m or whatever they chance, is very much barcelona sources thinking that might be enough. If in fact you read beyond the headline, alnost every one of them went on ti say that was some 15m away still, but hopeful City would accept given we only paid 23m.

There really is no need to deny a claim like that, it is distracting and pointless. And doesnt make the claim true.

I honestly don't thibk Barcelona have any intention of signing him this January. Frustrate, het the headlines, appease the fans in looking competitive, then tey again in the summer where they left off. Our board will know that side of them well, and leave them to it. And get on with what it is we do.

We're quick to deny connections to players we're not interested in, but can't think of any potentially transfers where we've gone public to deny amounts being negotiated

The only time we truly named a price was for Sane, pre injury. We also said he wasnt for sale, and played him like he was our player.

Garcia to an extent too in the sense we named a price, and stuck to it.

In neither of them though did we publicly declare the rumoured lower fees both bayern and Barcelona were claiming to be insufficient. And they clearly were because we didn't sell either for what was claimed.

Genuine question: Why do people care if we get €50m or €70m?

My perspective: We’re now in a world where Barcelona want to buy our 5th/6th choice winger, are struggling to do so and when they do they’ll have more than doubled our money.

As long as the team continues to invest (which it does every year).
As long as the team remains successful (which it does every year).
As long as we are only selling players we don’t need (Sane the only one in last 10 years and even then we’ve been fine since).

Or do we also want to win the net spend trophy?

Not sure we’ll ever get above value for any of our players because we don’t sell up. Anyone leaving is almost certainly stepping down of their own choice and hence no club is having to pay a premium for taking our players from us.

Do a deal and move on. It’s always worked out for us.
