Feyenoord (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

One thing is clear and that this squad is done. It doesn't mean that they all need to be got rid of but a huge rebuild and refresh is required. That's not happening just in the summer window so there is definitely no quick fix.

Trying to bring in players that will be the first pick for important games when fit is difficult. Trying to bring say five in such as RB, LB, defensive CM, creative midfielder and at least one wide player that can contribute goals and assists will be impossible in one window. I'm sure Pep isn't underestimating the size of the task but I'm not at all sure that he will stick around for that.

Everyone has a right to be upset with that last 15 yesterday. I was fuming walking back to the car but today I have a fresh outlook.
This season is a reset. Less stress for me just go to the games and not knowing what we are going to do is kind of fun in a perverse way.
People getting angyry with a team that has simply run out of steam.
Rebuild in summer.
I would let the following go-
Ederson
Walker
Akanji
Stones
Lewis - simply not good enough for us
Phillips
KDB
Bernardo
Grealish

Keep Savio,Doku,Rodders,Erling,Josko,Ake,Dias
Why Ederson?

Pep has frustrated me in the past for not throwing youngsters on when the game has seemingly been won…..so not going to criticise him for doing just that tonight….but why couldn’t we just drop to a flat back four after their first goal.

The experienced players let us down….De Bruyne with misplaced passes and failing to take the sting out of the game, Akanji strolling about thinking he’s the new Beckenbaeur (he’s actually very good when he sticks to the basics) and poor goalkeeping by Ederson plus some really sloppy and weak play by Gvardiol.

At times tonight we looked a little like our old selves but where has this sudden frailty come from……we definitely miss Dias for his leadership and organisation….De Bruyne is definitely not captain material.

Time waits for no one and despite an unbelievable achievement in winning the league last year….Walker, Gundogan (although tonight was his best game since his return) De Bruyne and Stones should be nowhere near the squad next season……and maybe one or two others.

If there is to be a criticism of Pep it is too much loyalty for the old guard.

We can’t have a relatively small squad with players that are very injury prone….Grealish, Doku and Ake have got to prove they can stay fit.

Our main aim has got to be Champions League qualification but this is going to hard to get over the line because some of the players know this will be their last season.

Let’s hope a top defensive midfielder is on his way for just after Christmas.

At least we might be able to recruit players who'll know that they'll get a game as the old guard are all crocked.

Rico played well. Kept the ball, some good defensive cut outs, won free kicks.
Agreed, rico is a young lad that’s had plenty of decent minutes in his short career. It’s inevitable he’ll have dips in form with his age. It’s completely compounded by the whole team/squad being out of form and kamikaze defending. I’m not a fan of him playing two roles atm either. RB and playing inside. Think he needs to master one or the other. At least for the short term. I’m convinced in a double pivot he’d be ok alongside a more experienced player and without trying to cover RB at the same time.

Let’s just forget about individual errors for a moment.
Game management was appalling last night, at 3-2 we had a free kick after Jack had been fouled and we just took it quick!!

What the fuck is that about?

We had a corner at 3-2 and just crossed it aimlessly into the box.

These decisions are being made by senior experienced players and is utterly bizarre.

They’ve all got to take a look at the decision making as a whole, the confidence is shot all over the place and I’ve got a feeling it’ll only get worse.
most other sides at that stage would see it out, tactical water break , sub , anything to run the clock down , to play such a high line at that stage was ridiculous naive at best

Until the substitutions it felt more like the Sparta Prague game with City slowly running the opposition into the ground and fresh legs accelerating the process.
All a bit dour but effective nonetheless.

It made sense to conserve some energy for Sunday but equally you'd expect a few instructions such as "Nothing stupid" or "Keep the ball"
Instead we seemed to go a bit self indulgent with the game not quite won and nobody seemingly quite sure if we were killing time or going for a 4th.

I felt really sorry for McAtee and Pusey as everything around them crumbled so spectacularly
