If Pellegrini can get Villarreal to the CL semi-final and Malaga within touching distance of the semi-final then I'm sure we will still challenge.

Don't forget the squad will still contain 13 foreign players and when you consider Hart, Clichy and Milner that will be a very strong squad of 16.

As long as we don't get stupid suspensions or injuries we should be fine.

It's not the strength of the squad I'm worried about it's squad harmony. If we sign Sagna, Mangala and Fernando then we'll have 18 'foreign' players which will have to be cut to 13. Who do we leave out?
Where are you getting this '13' number from? Surely it's 17 plus 4 'homegrown'.

I've seen no clarification either way, have you?

That's a valid point.

But even if we account for them signings, we could leave out Nastasic, Pantillimon and Garcia. The last two would be difficult and i'd be tempted to go with Sagna and Negrado.

Either way it will be tough but if anything being left out of the CL squad possibly means a better chance of playing in the league.

Clarification? Not specifically but as said earlier in the thread, UEFA rules say that if you only have 4 locally trained players your squad is limited to 21.
UEFA would have to introduce a new rule and enact it retrospectively.

One potential signing we may want to look at is Jack Colback at Sunderland. It is reported that he is available on a free. A homegrown player who is at ease in central mid and full back could be a real asset in a restricted squad.

Also. In relation to 21 players being enough last season. We should be looking to get to at least the Quarters this time round as MP has said so the restriction could harm us in the latter CL stages.
He's just a one season player right? Wouldn't it be better to just Fuck this champions league off this year, break even and smash it next year. I'm sure we could sort something out with the player's we've

Edit. Sorry didn't see the free part.
.

Why the f**k would we sign Jack Colback ahead of giving our academy players a chance? Jesus, if Nasri and Silva are keeping them out of the team then fair enough, but not Jack fucking Colback.

Lol PMS. Have you seen the quality games Colback has had against us? There will be opportunities for the best of our Academy next season if we are challenging on four fronts again and with the CL restrictions.

Hope you didn't take Edin firing us to the title too badly. Oh I forgot you are a fan of Dzeko's now.

Not read all of the thread as cannot be arsed but i heard we can only spend £48 million this summer, how could we possibly buy english players with that budget. Usually one alone costs that much.
Two most expensive English players are Carrol at £35M and Ferdinand at £30M. Bale cost Madrid a lot but he is not English.

There is an English premium but this does not make English players unaffordable the main problem is that there are not many good players available at the moment.

In my pissed up head this morning i was using the whole amount including wages, signing on fees etc which I know can be spread over the length of a contract

I hear Shaw could be going for £30 million plus, it does not leave much change for a top draw player

If you're right then this sanction effectively means nothing given that we only have Micah ( who is likely leaving ) as a club grown player in senior squad.

Play the kids and fuck UEFA

I'm sure we will have a decent attempt at the Champions League anyway. I won't be getting over excited about it though.
It just feels like a huge Heineken/Gazprom advert to me.

Give me the Premier League any day.

Re: FFP - 21 Man Squad Restriction & Homegrown Quota

Don't really know why everybody is so worried, A list this, B list that, homegrown not homegrown, City have played this smart, we had a 23 players in the CL squad last season and only used 21, so no change for us, the homegrown quota will be sorted and all the stars will still be in the squad.
We was effectively fined about 10m overall, which I see as the club taking this as a slap on the wrist, I'm sure most fans would like to see the club take uefa to court on all this, and maybe the club would too, but in reality the club don't want to rock the boat too much, the club wants to gate crash the big boys party and become one of them, not alienate themselves, look at it this way the fine is like a joining fee, from next season we will be break even and in profit going forward,
uefa is more about the politics than the football, City is playing the game, we are major players in the sport now, we're not going away and uefa know this, they just want there joining fee...
