FFP - 21 Man Squad Restriction & Homegrown Quota

Well if someone offered me a 100% pay rise to sign, & the chance to challenge for the Premier League, on the understanding that I miss a few Champions League games for one season, I wouldn't be that worried about the Champions League games.

But the club will know what the restrictions are & be planning accordingly. So the speculation is a bit of a waste of time seeing as we have no idea what the rules are, or which players are staying.

We could possibly do worse than give Richard Wright another 12 months.
I'd do that anyway and bring in Weaver as 3rd choice or Westwood as 2nd choice, both club trained.

I'm not overly concerned about how these sanctions would effect the dressing room because we do have squad players like Negredo and Garcia who are unlikely to cause too much fuss about not being registered next season.

Why wouldn't they cause a fuss? I'd imagine one of the carrots of joining City is that we have CL football to offer them. This is pro footballers with massive egos we're talking about here.

They wouldn't cause a fuss because even without the restrictions there's zero guarantee that they'd be playing the with the size and quality in our squad. Also, both players made big steps up from their previous clubs when moving to City. If CL football was that important they would've stayed at their previous clubs where playing time was guaranteed as was CL football (certainly in the case of Garcia).

I'm lost as to how some people are coming to the conclusion that the likes of Sagna, Fernando, Mangala or Benetia would sign for us knowing they aren't going to get in the CL squad

They would be coming to us with the hope of winning the damn thing

For me you'd take out Garcia and Demichelis and replace them with Fernando and Mangala/Benetia

If the above goes smoothly and we sign Fernando and Mangala/Benatia then I think the only solution to the RB problem is to make Richards see out his contract and get him fit

I'm sure that's what we would do, based on the fact that Garcia and Demichelis are already committed to contracts with us and there's nothing they could do about it. That's not very holistic though is it, and i wouldn't be surprised if those players felt pretty unappreciated and unmotivated to give their best when called upon in the league. I'm not sure it affects the Sagna transfer as much, if man u are our competition for him.

Fair enough but I disagree, putting myself in the shoes of the player that was left out I know I'd be pissed off.

Doesn't squad restrictions break EU employment law

I would have thought so. Saying "here is a punishment but it applies to foreign players only".

Easier said that done that mate. I thought he'd gone and crocked himself again in the Al Ain match. He just seems to get injured every other game these days. I am not meaning to be harsh or nasty to the lad, it's just the reality and I don't put it down to a run of bad luck - it's something about his bulk and the way he throws himself about.

We're talking about maybe 8 games if we get out of the group, which compares to the 45 or more we'll possibly play in the domestic competitions. And it's just for one season.

Looking at last season, the 13 foreign could be:
Zabaleta
Kolarov
Fernandinho
Kompany
Nasri
Toure
Aguero
Silva
Dzeko
Garcia
DeMichelis
Jovetic

The 4 association could be:
Hart
Clichy
Milner
Rodwell

The 4 club could be:
Richards/Boyata
Rekik
Huws
Lopes

Negredo, Pantilimon & Nastasic lose out from last season but I'm not convinced that the first two will be here anyway. Any new foreign signings may miss out for a season unless Fernando replaces Garcia. Sagna can be used to give Zab a rest in the PL. If Mangala or another centre back comes in then they can be used more domestically instead of DeMichelis. There's nothing to stop us giving them any CL bonus payment anyway. It's an irritant but, for the sake of 8 games, not a disaster. If we get any further than R16 then it's not even affected us negatively at all.

That's only 12 mate.
Then we can add Mangala as we're short at centre back.

And you forgot Navas.

Has Rekik been at City for 3 seasons now?

As for the Sagna front, he's 31, would he sign at this stage in his career when he may well not be in the Champion's League, he won't have many opportunities left to play in it?
