Great idea to have qualifiers just once a year but at the end of the season. That should allow the domestic season to finish a couple of weeks earlier. The end of season (Fa Cup final) was nearly always the first week in May.
The Euros should adopt the same criteria. Whilst they are at it, the qualifying groups should be seeded on International rankings and not on the Federations they represent EG in a group of 5, seeds 1-5 regardless, could be Italy, Brazil, Denmark, Wales, Australia. That would ensure quality in the finals and not the shite and dead rubbers that plague the first week of the tournament.
