The VAR madness has now found its way into the Women’s game.

How can that be offside, Bronze was not involved in the first phase of play and when she passed the ball it was after it had been touched by a Chinese defender.

If the Whistling Wankers don't want to give the goal they will have to find a reason, and so the 'first phase' was merged with the 2nd 'n 3rd phase and it became just one phase. I had the mute on so I didn't hear what the ref uttered by way of explanation.

Are they saying that because she challenged the defender who cleared the ball, she gained an advantage from the initial offside?

That's what the rules say:

"Gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has
- rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent
– been deliberately saved by any opponent".

It is not an offence if the ball was last deliberately played by an opponent (except for a deliberate save). In this context, according to the IFAB, "A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal."

Refs don't "explain" they just say "offside" and the commentators are mostly too incompetent to explain the rules for the audience.

It doesn't help the crowd in the ground at all until video footage is shown on big screens.

I've just had a channel switch and landed in the Haiti v Denmark game. It's another 'passing fest' interspersed with mis-kicks, mis-control and mis-direction. But the commentary wallahs are keeping up a positive vibe!
