So the transfer window has a couple of days left and it looks like KDB is on his way in, no talk of any notable outs. I thought it would be a good time to update on the final numbers for our squad / recap on the rules etc. The key issue is 17 foreigners (for both PL and CL squad rules). Ours is looking like this:
1 Caballero.
2 Kompany, 3 Mangala, 4 Sagna, 5 Kolarov, 6 DeMichelis, 7 Zabaleta. 8 Otamendi
9 Fernando, 10 Fernandinho, 11 Yaya Toure, 12 Silva, 13 Navas, 14 Nasri, 15 De Bruyne,.
16 Bony, 17 Aguero.
(18 Bruno Zuculini).
Beyond the 17 above we can have 4 association trained (AT) and 4 club trained (CT) for the CL, the PL doesn’t distinguish AT and CT and allows 8 of either (pretty sure that’s the case). There is no minimum so we dont need to fill these spots. So ours looks like this:
AT: 1 Hart, 2 Clichy, 3 Sterling, 4 Delph, 5 Wright. CT: None!
Under 21’s are not limited so all EDS players can play, notable under 21 players are:
Jason Denayer (out on loan), Kelechi Iheanacho, Marcos Lopes, Patrick Roberts.
We are pretty much full once KDB signs as that will mean Zuculini drops out of the squad and I would imagine he will have to go out on loan. We also have no space for any last minute transfer raids unless we drop a senior player. We were in the same position in Jan when we signed Bony and Jovetic got dropped for the CL (we had 1 less space in the CL then so he could continue in the PL). One move suggested back then was shipping out Caballero for an AT keeper however we have a full quota there now so that is no longer an option in the CL (although it is for PL). On that basis I think were done for 2015/16 until Jan.
All in all I think that is the strongest squad we have ever had, possibly a bit light up front in numbers but with Aguero / Bony fighting for 1 position and Nacho as back up the only opportunities will really come if we get multiple injuries.
