Fine Margins, rub of the Green, and Shocking Officials

Maybe we have but we are 13 points behind this season not 6 or 7.

No team gets every decision.

We have been poor this season and that is the reason why we are where we are.

And it's not just in some games, it's in a lot of games.

Next season we may get the rub of the green. Who knows?

I do think we have had some bad decisions. But in most of the matches that have been
quoted, if we had put our chances away and not defended so shockingly then we would
not be having this conversation.

You make your own luck.

We've been shit but without doubt we have been done by the officials. Chelsea deserve the title ,they have been better than us but 13 points better? Nah. Has we not been cheated ,even after a poor run of form, wed be having another great run in.a run in for all to enjoy.well done refs, your cheating just made the premiere league boring.

being done by own players is something i would be looking at not officials, as you have eloquently put in other threads

I agree with the sentiment that you make your own luck, and we haven't played well enough, consistently enough, to make the most of own own chances, or indeed to make enough luck for
ourselves. Supposedly luck should even out over a season, i'm not convinced it has for us.

Bad decisions are a different matter, first of all, they should not even happen, but on the basis i will grudgingly accept that referees are human (mostly), some will happen, and all teams will suffer their share of them, however, i find it hard to come up with an adequate reason why we have suffered at the hands of a disproportionate amount of erroneous, if not shocking decisions, unless of course, somebody does not like us?.

Totally different argument for a different thread, given that we now have goal line technology, the sooner video technology is used for ALL penalty decisions the better. Any time referee or assistant has good cause to believe a penalty kick is appropriate flag, / blow whistle, for conditional penalty kick, check incident with 4th official (bit like rugby) either with his assistance,or solely 4th official's decision, or simply reviewing incident again, referee either awards penalty kick to attacking side, or re-starts with free kick from penalty spot to defending side. - SIMPLES

One would hope , with the safety net of a review, to cover their arses with regards to awarding a penalty in error, and being lambasted afterwards, referees would / should be more willing to award conditional penalty, and then reviewing it. As long as no stigma was attached to the referee for awarding a conditional penalty, and on review cancelling it in favour of the defending side, i believe this to be a win, win situation, and can see no downside! Fairly obviously, as play has stopped, the officials also would have (as long as required) to consider any yellow or red cards.

A bit like Cricket DRS, and Rugby TMO, no guarantee that ALL decisions would be correct, but a guarantee there would be dramatically less wrong ones, and that most certainly is what is required!

I'm shocked at the "acceptance" on here by many of the many shit decisions that go against us on an almost weekly basis now.

Our performances are completely separate and to claim we dont deserve anything because we have been poor of late is just ridiculous when the laws of the game say otherwise.

Not sure if this falls under "rub of the green" because I'm not sure if that is the case, but can anyone give me a comprehensive reason why is it we are awarded fewer free kicks than any other team in the Premier League? Are we really "fouled" less?

So far this season we have been awarded 268 Free Kicks which is not just the lowest of any team but by far away the lowest. Not just in the Premier League as well - we receive fewer free kicks per game than any other team in the main European leagues.

From our closest rivals in the PL the table for so far this season is:

City 268
United 354
Arsenal 373
Chelsea 389
Liverpool 407

Oh, it was the same last season as well...

That's the top and bottom of it. There will be ridiculous decisions go against us in games we hammered a side but we forget about them because we've been competent enough to actually have some conviction and ruthlessness and take a team to the sword. But in games where we look like a bunch of soft-arses who can't be arsed or have shite tactics that don't suit our defenders or defensive midfielders or our strikers couldn't hit a barn door or our corners are like kicking a balloon into the box agianst the wind...we then blame the refs!

It's a proper losers mentalit. A mentality of the mentally weak who can't accept that they or the team they follow just aren't good enough.
