So here we go, round 2 of the group stage fixtures, hopefully as the urgency ramps up we get a few more exciting games.
Finland v Russia
Wednesday 16th June 2021
Kicks off at 14:00 (BST) at the Saint Petersburg Stadium in St Petersburg, Russia. Capacity at 50%, approximately 34,000 as it stands.
Coverage begins at 13:45 (BST) on BBC 1, presented by Mark Chapman, analysis from Alex Scott & Micah Richards. Commentary from Robyn Cowen & Martin Keown.
Referee: Danny Makkelie (NED)
FINLAND
Tough to really judge Finland based off of their first game, they were 2nd best until that awful incident where Eriksen collapsed. They then went on to win the game when it restarted a couple hours later, when it was clear that the Danish players weren’t ready to play that game. They now come into this knowing a draw will probably be enough to send them to the last 16.
Top Euro 2020 Goal scorers:
Joeal Pohjanpalo (Union Berlin on loan from Bayer Leverkusen) – 1
Starting XI v Denmark:
RUSSIA
Probably hard to judge Russia too much based on their first game in the sense that they were easily 2nd best, they were swept aside by Belgium with relative ease. Lukaku bullied their defence but the defence didn’t help themselves. Two very poor mistakes for Belgium’s first 2 goals left them up against it early on. I think they need a result in this one, that big defeat versus Belgium means 3 points with a poor goal difference probably won’t be enough for a best 3rd place spot.
No goal scorers so far.
Starting XI v Belgium:
Full squads are in their opening match threads.
