Finley Burns (Southend kid)

175k rising to 250k if he a pro deal with us. Must be half decent plus that money will be welcomed by them

This shouldn't be reported at all. Poor form from everyone.

No doubt we`ll be reported to the FA for something.

It's nailed on. Bet there's a negative report in the DT. I'll just go an' check!

Checked: James Ducker, Northern Rag Football Correspondent - just a simple statement of fact but finishes with 'the money' angle being a record for a lad of that age. It's the last paragraph on a piece about GJ who headlines "City put faith in Jesus living up to hype".

JDTRFIAFC.

Does beg the question why have an academy when you can just buy in talent at a later age. You could assemble the best 14-15 year olds in the country for a couple of million.

By the way, the RECORD FEE of £175,000 has happened because we chose to pay 150,000 more than necessary.

Under EPPP Southend were entitled to just £34,000.

Guys lets get this right - he isn`t a "wonderkid" and its unfair to put that tag on him. It may be helpful to remove that from the post title.

He is a big centre back with potential joining a squad of players who have barely lost a match since they were 9 years old. Hence just another one of all those players with potential. He will have to prove himself in that squad to become a first choice in what is a very very good team. Like all of them he will have to graft.

The price tag is red herring. To take any player who has been with a club since they were nine costs around that much due to EPPP rules. Why shouldn`t a club lower down the leagues get compo for developing a player. City have been more than fair with Southend so good luck to us.

Leave that lad alone - let him keep learning and let him settle in to life at cfa and see how it pans out.

That's quite simply not true, as I said in my comment above. EPPP rules entitled them to £34,000.

Prove himself in a squad? Given the money paid he's obviously seen as better than what we have. 175K for a boy of that age is huge and to move from that far away the club will have all but guaranteed him a scholarship.
