Fish And Chips

Tartare sauce and gherkins are the only things i cannot stand. Nobody else in my house likes it either.
Having said that, it's still a good shout for me to try and make my own, as i know some people love it. Just need to find a suitable taste tester!
I like a bit of Tabasco sauce on my non battered fish, lovely on hake, sea bass and cod and as a treat now and again Halibut and Turbot, last two my favourites but very expensive these days.

Last time I was over we enjoyed excellent stuff and sit-down service at Olympus Fish & Chips in Bolton, superbly run by a Cypriot guy.

I was in No.8 last Thursday and I think it's great. The fish is light and flaky and I always finish it whereas at many other chippies it's very stodgy and I usually struggle to finish it. Chips are perfect as well.
It gave me no pleasure to be negative. If I were Supreme Dictator all chippies would have to cook in beef dripping by law. But I can only say it as it was on the day. Maybe it was a bad day. I will give them another go, just in case, but I do know what good f&c tastes like and what I had that night was not it.

'Found' a great one today, albeit just outside GM.

Shell's Plaice in Haslingden. Fish (haddock) outstanding. Batter excellent. Chips as near to perfect as it gets. And all done in beef dripping.

You'd go a long way to find anything better. Strong recommendation.

The Open at Royal Portrush this week. One local restaurant put their food prices up (almost doubled). Fish and chips almost £30. There was uproar on social media and they posted that they will reduce the price but it reflected then having to employ extra staff in kitchen, waitering, door staff (to control crowds)

They get busy so they charge more.

Sounds legit :)

Ha!
Opened this and for a moment thought I'd accidentally clicked on the PL Charge City 115 thread.
What in the name of sweet baby Jesus is this thing doing to us??
