Why didn't they just pick City v rags for the first game, then play it later, thus only having to re-arrange one game instead of 2 and only affecting 2 teams instead of 4. Obvious!!

Because 1- the calibre of the muppets running the game is way below that kind of thinking ... and 2- imagine the uproar on here and over at United's forums if derby was the first game of the season, plus the whole algorithm that calculates the fixtures and churns them out is to make sure big games are spread across the whole season so there's no randomness about it, it's just all geared towards what TV companies can most benefit from ... big games are always kept separate of other big games and first gameweek is never to get one because general interest is there anyway given beginning of the season ... anything for TV companies to sell their subscriptions. You're right about given this wasn't technically going to be gameweek 1 game given it's postponement but it still would have to come out of TV companies quota of what they can show LIVE so that'd have meant 1 less game for them to pick on first weekend ... I think that is where it wasn't acceptable to the broadcast guys ... a derby is going to be on TV anyway, but later in the season. First gameweek is about getting those smaller teams' supporters to sign up to new subscriptions ... first few weeks actually.

Sky mentioned next week yesterday mention an actual day/time
When will the Premier League TV fixtures be announced?
Rights to Premier League games are shared between Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime.

A statement read: “The Premier League has agreed with its UK broadcast partners to increase the number of matches shown live from 200 to 220 for the 2020/21 season only.

“Of the additional live fixtures, 12 will be shown on Sky Sports, six on BT Sport and two on Amazon Prime Video.

“The UK broadcast selections for the early match rounds will be confirmed next week.

A new season,a new perspective, wipe the slate clean and all that.Var and refs aside, we have the chance to win every game we play in with our players, even to overcome shit decisions if we put our chances away. So lets get strapped in and (try to)enjoy the ride, a great big fcking rollercoaster, heres to more peaks than troughs, and hopefully some silverware at the end.Oh, and a festering shitpile trophyless season for the nine.

Because it would then be played on a Tuesday or Wednesday night and sky will want it on a weekend to get higher viewing figures

Your beliefs are not evidence. There is too much incompetence to organise widespread corruption.
That is the same argument that the rags use when someone calls them out on corruption or dodgy on field decisions. If, in fact, there is incompetence then it is in the middle management of the corrupt organizations, not at the top. They might be wankers at the top, but far from incompetent.
