Is it fucked? Cant get it to stay switched on. Anybody know if Sony will give me a new one, had this for around 2 and a half years. Pretty pissed off cos it cost me around £400.

Any help would be appreciated

You won't get a new one mate unless you took out the extended warranty with Sony, anything over a year and your fucked! However, give this a read....

i got a YLOD 2 1/2 years after getting mine, rang up the helpline and they said for me being loyal to Sony they'd send me a free replacement, which they did a week later.

If it's not a YLOD consult the Sony website, it may be solvable, try disconnecting everything for a period of time etc.

This was common when COD world at war came out, loads did it, one of the main causes of blinking red light is overheating, sometimes if you unplug it and put it somewhere cool it cools down and its ok again, other times its done damage and its goosed. this happened to my mate and when he sent it to sony he told them there was a disk stuck in, he got the fixed PS back 3 weeks before his disk returned by post.

First once you turn on the console from standby the front should have a solid green light. (take all discs out). If the light keeps blinking and you cant get 2 your main menu ( the one with options like games movies etc.) Then that indicates that your system is experiencing a hardware failure. Turn the console off by holding the front for 10 seconnds. once the console is on standy by turn it off from the back.
disconnect all cords from the ps3. On the end with stickers there should be a little rectangle box to open and get your hard drive ( read the manual and remove the HDD). Once the Hdd is out reconnect all wires. turn the ps3 back on manually and hold the on button(in front) until you here 2 beeps. If you still cant see your dashboard or menu then the ps3 console it self has a system failure. if you can see the dashboard then the hdd has a failure in it. If it is the hdd just replace it with a computer(laptop hdd) hdd.

Happened to me about a year ago. $$ony wanted £129 to send a replacement and only would give an additional 3 month warranty.

There was a disc stuck in there though - took them 16 weeks to give it back. Must have called them about 12 times, each tome the guy was like 'Oh, there are no notes on here'. Muppets. Angered me as Micro$oft will replace RLOD for nowt, and being a $ony console owner since the late 90s I thought I'd receive more help. Silly me.

It's also possible you may get a different console of them - they offered me a 120GB for my 60GB.

This is what has exactly happened to me and ive just got off the phone, only difference is they wanted £131 off me. I'm not happy. Got about 50 games and over 200 blu rays with nothing to play or watch them on.

Rang sony up and cost me £130 for a refurbed one as its fucked and was out of warranty. Better than paying £250 for a brand new one, but still expensive.

The thing with the refurbed one's is that i dont want one that has had this fault previous as i jave heard they are prone to do it again. Bollox paying £130 for this to happen 6 months down the line.

my replacement has worked perfectly for over a year now.

I don't trust the refurbs...My original PS3 died (YLOD) was out of the warranty so paid sony £128 for a refurb with a 3 month warranty...after about 5 months that one broke too, rang sony again and they wanted another £128 for another refurb...after arguing with them for a bit and saying how my original ps3 cost over £500 (on day of release) that i shouldnt have to keep paying for a replacement, so they sent me a new refurb for free...i straight away traded it in and got myself a 250gb slim for about 50 quid :)

The one I had that died was a refurb, as my original brand new one died when under warranty, its lasted 2 years, about 1 year longer than the brand new one. I actually have had 2 refurbs in the last few weeks, the first one they sent was faulty, so sent another one out straight away.
