It’s the anniversary today of City’s first floodlit game at Maine Road. Anybody there? Can you remember what it was like? It was the first of 3 commemorative floodlit games.

I wasn't old enough to be there but I do remember being at the unveiling of the updated floodlights as a lad in the mid 1960's. I think we played Bury on a Boxing Day, but wouldn't swear to it. What I vividly recall is that when they were switched on at HT the lights initially turned green, and some blokes standing near me thought they weren't working properly. 'Typical City' may well have been uttered.

I wasn't even thought of then nevermind born. But i used to love Maine Road night matches. Sometimes I'd walk it from town and notice them dazzling in the distance. The closer i got the more excited i became. I always wanted to climb up one and watch a game. I loved Maine Road.
Nearest I got was absailing off the roof for some charity thing.

Three years before I was born I'm afraid and my dad never mentioned this one. He told me of a game at Maine Rd after the war called a victory International between England and Scotland. Their was a vast Scottish following and for some reason had come armed with frying pans which they banged together at every Scotland attack. Maine Rd one of the finest grounds in the country then and often chosen for prestigious matches.
