Been thinking much the same watching the Chelsea game tonight, Stamford Bridge has been embarrassed by the Copenhagen fans.

Just not the same in England unfortunately, not sure why though.

A couple of reasons I guess, one the football is of a higher standard so people actually watch the game, beleive it or not some of the lower league clubs have cracking atmospheres and the fans really get into it, and the cost of the tickets meaning people want to see the match

Because in England, fans have been socially engineered to view the product on the field rather than that going on around it.

No standing and no drinking alcohol in view of the pitch. Clubs have taken away the very things that fans want - free singing and spontaneous chanting. Instead we get music piped through speakers ''telling us to sing Blue Moon'' just on kick off, or that 60's tune Chelsea play (do do do do, do do do do, do do do do, do do do do, do do do do - CLAP CLAP) prior to kick off.
Then there are goal celebration music....... step forward Middlesborough and Burnley.... amongst others. Tom Hark or Pigbag.
For 'older' fans, we keep trying to keep the free chants going, but younger fans seem to be happy to be led into being told what to sing and when to sing it and are happy to be sheep like in being led into this controlled atmosphere.

The Beat(en) Generation....... open your eyes, open your imagination...

I enjoy the goal music at Burnley, was better when we were the only team(probably not the only team but never heard it anywhere else when we first had it) that had that music though. Also Oh Fortuna used to be a good one when the teams come out but i'll agree that it has been well overdone.

Wembley is the worst place for music though, they won't fuck off with it. Struggle to talk to somebody next to you pre-game let alone get any chants going.

The atmosphere in England is absolute shit now, even throughout the championship (Leeds were the only decent ones this year) .As I posted in another thread, it's the lack of violence and more being seen as a family day out that is causing this. Leeds were the most vocal fans and in this division the club we have most trouble with. The potential violence is what causes the tension and wanting to beat the toher fans. If everyone is happy to sit down and cut out swearing then it's never going to be the same as it once was.

Also another factor is the stewarding. I've been thrown out of Turf Moor three tiems this season and CoMS once. All for not sitting down whilst the away fans chant what they like and abusing players when they take corners. The stewards are one of the biggest problems right now.

Cant blame the stewards if they are being told to throw people out...... stewards are under pressure from the clubs, who are under pressure from their local safety advisory group, who are under pressure from the Football Licensing Authority. They are the culprits.
Do not agree with you about ''potential violence being the cause of a great atmosohere''. When at a big game, I want City to win, especially against the rags.... I will cheer, shout and sweat for City to beat them..... but beat up a rag? No.
And you are happy that no matter how a goal is scored at Burnley..... a 30 yard dribble around 5 players or a simple 1 yard tap in.... you are happy to dance along to Tom Hark?
The public get what the public want........

I think some atmospheres across Europe are better than England, more so over the course of smaller games, my only problem is, could be completely wrong....but it's almost to set out. They have people 'running' the crowd, sing certain songs, where it seems it's to the point where football comes second.

I don't think you can truely quite beat a great English atmosphere because it's, 40/50/60,000 people who geniunally care creating an atmosphere, singing songs just made for that game simply on the spot. It's not a set group of supporters who turn up every game, almost sing songs in order, to the point of a lot of the fans go for the day out, with the boys, tradition, if there was no day out, would they care just as much about their team? something tells me not, I don't know why, just seems that way.

Sometimes European crowds are too 'contrived' where England atmosphere at it's best is just sheer passion for the game.

The stewards are completely at fault. Fans are allowed to shout "your're fucking shit" at our players with no consequences yet when i start shouting it at their players I get thrown out for abuse. The stewards are braindead twats.

What makes a rivalry so good if all you're going to do is have a bit of banter with Rags after the match? I do that with every other football fan and their team, the special thing about the derby is hating every single one of their fans. When you look of some of the threads where fans are saying they're sharing transport with Rags then how can you expect atmosphere in the stadium when they're travelling down to London with them?

Love football atmosphere in England (been on Arsenal and QPR games). In Ukraine it's... well... shit and something that can't be really compared to English venues and supporters.
The same is with Europe (been on games in Italy, Poland, France, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Spain, Turkey).

General understanding of the game and overall 'people are living with the game' (well, don't know how to say it better) feeling is tremendous in England compared to the rest of Europe. Well, it's close in Italy, but I don't like their style.

Here (in Kiev) it's just shitty. General audience is quite reserved and while people understand the game, its details, etc, they are not too great in terms of chanting, etc.

Hardcore fans that group into clans here are just pure shitheads that don't follow the game and are subdued to racist and nationalistic propaganda by their leaders.
Had to watch our home game against Ajax in the same sector with them - I was totally pissed off the fact that guys started chanting 'Duce, Duce, Benito Mussolini' (Mussolini is a facist Italian leader, hero of Lazio (Rome) supporters famous for their fasict-racist attitude)... Shit, shit shit. I guess these teenager just have no bloody idea about how their great grand dads fought in 1941-1945 and what for...
