The same goes for Ronaldinho which means little Ronaldo his real name being - Ronaldo de Assis Moreira.

I can also think of Gervinho.

Can anyone else think of any others? Maybe an English one. I always find it weird, it seems more common in foreign leagues.

Every Brazilian footballer who ever played the game has a shortened version of their name, or a nickname.

The Brazilians are nearly all nick names. I first found this out with Juninho, who's full name is Juraldo Oswaldo Junior. They have shit loads of names see, so they shorten it.
