Football Tourism - Good, Bad or Indifferent?

It's a bit weird, at the Dinamo game there was a couple and their friend sat next to us and the couple didn't even watch the game, they both sat there on their phones or hugging and kissing. Then at the end the just took loads of pictures of them on different seats with different stadium views behind them, on the way out i asked them had they taken enough pictures yet? They had no clue what i was saying. No issues with tourists coming to the game, but at least watch the football?

Great post bud.
SKY subscribers are treated better as customers than match day attendees, herded like Sheep told to sit down and if you smoke in the toilets you're a planet destroying evil bugger.
Quite right. If we were truly treated as customers, football clubs would value our regular attendance, be keen to retain that loyalty and generally try to enhance the experience of visiting the Etihad, rather than being treated as nuisances and potential criminals that they pay lip services to but have no real interest in.

I can shout at my telly now and the only gobby steward is my wife if I ask for a brew in game.
This post got me thinking.....
I should open America's first English football theme pub.....
*Charge $50 to get in (tickets bought in advance via a points system to ensure the regulars get first dibs along with those who are members of supporters clubs.)
*$10 for car park
* searches upon entry. No bicycle helmets or flasks
* bar closes on kick off, no drinking in view of the TV screen whilst the game is in play
*segregated fans inside with stewards in the middle
*poor quality food served luke warm throughout
*stewards will reprimand those using foul language or persistantly standing up.
*no smoking throughout and especially not in the toilets.

I think i'm onto a winner and cant think why it hasnt been thought of before.....

Isn't it just bud, isn't it just.

It could be an issue if it starts to affect local fans. Liverpool have something like half the number of season tickets as us with a massive waiting list because they can rely on tourists and out-of-towners to fill the stadium.

As far as City owning clubs in different continents, I fail to see what it brings to Manchester City. Is there anything positive it actually brings to us?

And as far as tourists go, I don’t fucking like it at all. Loads of proper fans sat at home watching from their arm chairs up and down the country because tourists have inflated prices of football tickets.

Even though we aren’t the most expensive by any stretch, even seasoncards at City aren’t that good value for money anymore. Level 1 and 3 East Stand, the old Kippax, priced at over £40 per game with a seasoncard. Then individual match ticket prices are ridiculous.

And all the half’n’half scarf, selfie stick, obsessed with videoing any player including the opposition, in the City ends, with United superstore bags in their back packs or Liverpool screen savers on their phone.

They can all fuck right off, for me.

The other day, Wolves striker Raul had clearly got tickets for some Mexican mates in 104 in the East Stand as he came straight over after everyone else had left the pitch, climbed over the advertising boards and had a chat with them.

Why are City giving free tickets to people like this? Yet then selling tickets to actual City fans for £60?

I can’t be doing with shit like this.

Firstly, being treated as customers takes your “loyalty” away. Bringing in tourists creates short term wealth for the club, but is only sustainable if we are winning for a generation to cement fair weather football “fans” to replace the outpriced older fan.

Secondly, clickbait media has dumbed down reporting to basically reinforce the viewpoint that traditional club = good and nouveau riche clubs = bad.

Thirdly, social media then uses these media stories, along with memes and edited videos for “the bantz”, meaning that it’s almost impossible to talk normally online about football. People are extremely partisan on every subject, your side being taken by the club in focus of the bantz.

Football is also 24/7 on tv these days and there is no thought given to the travelling fans, both home and away. At some point, all these things will brew up together and hit boiling point and what will remain after that, I don’t know.
