Last night I watched a TV programme on Billy Connolly and it reminded me of something I did in the 1980s.
We were working at the Hikurangi Dairy Company (a few miles north of Whangarei in NZ's North Island). A colleague and I were staying at the hotel/pub - a typical old colonial establishment. After dinner we stayed in the dining room supping single malts. We bought a round and then the landlord stood us a round. At closing time he told us to go into the public bar where he was conducting a 'lock-in'. Now the scotch was on the house and my tongue loosened somewhat and I started telling Billy Connolly gags. The punters were captivated by my (poor) Scottish accent but loved the gags especially the one on football violence.
If you get a bit bored in this break from our sublime football follow the link below and have a bit of a laugh....................................
I had to give a repeat performance the next night as everyone in the dairy company knew about my stories by morning tea time.
