Doesn't seem to be getting any attention beyond individual cases, but surely at some point the media has to link these together and question why the likes of Eriksen, Aguero, Fleck and now Charlie Wyke are being randomly taken ill after previously being healthy? Is it Covid? Vaccines? Lapses in heart testing protocols? Needs to be investigated in my view. It's worrying for young men to see a spate of seemingly fit and healthy role models collapsing or becoming ill, and the normal population don't have the benefit of defibrilators or immediate medical assistance if they collapse whilst exercising alone.

Think this needs more attention than it's getting, 2bh. It's a public health issue.

Its been under reported and on the rise for a while.

Be interesting to see a follow-up study after the last couple of years. Can only think the number is worse with Covid effecting the respiratory system etc. Luckily its gaining noise and we see an in-depth study asap

Sudden, severe heart problems in young and healthy people are rare, but not as rare as many might think. I knew a healthy, active guy a few years ago who died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 24.

Definitely needs investigation as it's starting to look like a cluster of heart issues in footballers over a relatively short period. Risk factors like covid and vaccinations need to be investigated (I'd be interested to see if there's been an increase in heart problems in the general population) and work done to make clubs' screening more effective.

We probably also need to look at footballers' lifestyles - there may be something in the nutritional or exercise advice they're being given that's unknowingly putting extra strain on their hearts.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_association_footballers_who_died_while_playing is a pretty grim read but you will see "heart" come up time and again in over a century's worth of data, and this is just the players who died.

www.c-r-y.org.uk is a great charity that funds research, screening and support around this issue

Only way we'll get a view on whether it's linked to top level sports lifestyles / nutrition / schedules or not is to get an understanding of sudden cardiac issues amongst 16 - 35 year olds that aren't top level athletes.

Could be a while before we get to the bottom of this. Pray no more die before it's understood.
