Footballs Darkest Secret 9pm BBC

Utterly heart breaking to see these guys, I can't imagine the bravery it must take to stand up and speak out after going through an experience like this.

I think back to all those games watching David White and Paul Stewart and not knowing the turmoil they were going through. I hope they find a way to come out of the other side.

Dario Gradi ?!!! What does anyone make of him??

The rumours haven’t been properly substantiated as Crewe have protected him so far.

If you listen to what the FA said the other day, it’s clear that they believe that Gradi was a nonce, but can’t 100% prove it.

He was lauded as a bit of a rising star as a manager, but there was always something odd about him.

It was strange with the success he had at Crewe that no big club came in for him. There must have been some knowledge about him.

I believe when Gradi produced these youth players at Crewe and they sold them on for good money, the agreement was Gradi was bonused something like 20% of the transfer money. So for that reason, you can understand why Gradi didn't want to move to another club and why he would be willing to turn a blind eye to Benell's crimes. And as it was a money spinner for Crewe FC, why the chairman didn't want an investigation.

I have known whitey a bit over the last few years and he has clearly been hugely impacted all his life. Good lad but always slightly introverted - totally understandable.
I looked at a house on a new estate in Boothstown in 1987. Whitey and his girl looked too at same time. Not my area so didn't proceed I just thought wow that's David White.

As a lad, I was broken-hearted when Paul Stewart left our club, as a man I am broken-hearted to see what he went through.

Going back to 1987, we had an indifferent start to our season and were on a terrible run away from home. I think it was something like two years since we'd won on the road
We played Ipswich away and got battered 3-0. I was told that after the game Machin practically picked up a player and shook him shouting "why can't you play away from home? The player was rumored to be David White

Such a talented player so obviously held back by what happened to him.

Utterly heart breaking.
