People didn't speak. I grew up in that era. Nobody spoke about anything that was related to sex so obviously sadistic perverts were safe from justice.
This. But also on the rare occasions that kids spoke up, back in the day they'd often be ignored by the authorities or not taken seriously enough.

Back in 1974 myself and my sister had to go into foster care for a short while. I was 4 and she was 6. My parents had split up. My mother was suffering from manic depression so my dad got custody of us (a rare thing even in the present day but it's indicative of how ill she was). However, because he was working all hours to keep a roof over our heads, we needed looking after. The first family that fostered us were the nicest people you could ever meet but we only stayed there for a couple of weeks before being moved on to another family. The contrast couldn't have been more stark. The parents treated us like shit, culminating in an episode one evening where I was having a bath and the mother (I think it was the mother but it's all a bit vague as I was so young) bounced my head off the tap and I ended up spending the rest of the night in Bury Infirmary with claret gushing out of my head. I still have the battle scars to this day. When the news reached my dad, he got us out of there as quick as he could. A complaint went in to Bury Social Services but to my knowledge fuck all action was taken and these cunts were free to foster/abuse their next victim. Luckily, while I'm physically scarred I've not been mentally scarred but after watching the first 2 episodes of this programme I dread to think how badly I would've been affected if the abuse had been sexual.

After watching episode 2, how disgraceful was it that the Dispatches programme from over 20 years ago was swept under the carpet by the footballing authorities? I can't believe the arrogance of that prick from the FA who never replied to their correspondence and then shut the reporter down when she confronted him outside their offices.

Also, I couldn't help but think that the Americans embarrassed us somewhat because they managed to secure a conviction for Bennell from the very first complaint they received whereas over here he got away with abusing kids for something like 2 decades as any complaints were routinely swept under the carpet ffs.

Him and Lakey were my heroes growing up. Absolutely gutted when I found out what happened. Makes a lot of sense now looking back.

70 odd years in jail for the pain ans suffering they caused. The common theme is they acted like they did not have a care in the world.Well the world needs rid of them i know the death penalty will upset a few on here. However Benell,Higgins and Ormand are beyond rehabilitation.
