Having worked for an American company, this is what happens. They show lots of revenue on the books, (Creative accounting), push up EBITDA and create assets that can be borrowed against or sold.
Borrow as much as possible against the assets & pocket the cash. (instead of share sales, they say) pocket any cash reserve immediately. When the company is bled dry, they sell.
