It is clear that the next two games against Sunderland and Liverpool are very important and may have an impact on our chances to win the title at least from psychological point of view.

In your point of view, What is the most appropriate formation and players selection for each match? taking into account the need to rest some players, especially after the last disappointing draw and the fact that we have only 48 hours gap.

I think this is the current challenge for Mancini.

In my point of view

Sunderland:

Joe Hart
Micah.... Kompany ....Lescott….Zaba
Barry …. NDJ
AJ…. Silva ….Aguero
DzeKo

Liverpool:

Joe Hart
Savic.... Kompany ....Kolo….Clichy (Kolarov)
Barry …. Yaya
Nasri…. Silva ….Balo
Aguero

Any thoughts?

I'd rest Silva for the Sunderland game and possibly half of the Liverpool game depending how AJ does against Sunderland.

Yaya is desperate for a rest and NDJ is ready to go thats a no brainer for me.

I totally agree with you that Yaya need a rest, and certainly the same applies to Silva as well

But can we afford the absent of both Silva and Yaya? I think it is a risky decision althought that Nasri should be able to play the same role

I hope this yaya must play every game is relaxed for this. It's a critical decision for Mancini. Go too weak against Sunderland and we could come a cropper and don't go full strength against Liverpool and we could against them too. I would much rather play an almost fresh side against Both and would take a risk in the Sunderland game.

Hart
Zab, Toure, Lescott, Kolorov (assuming fit)

De Jong Milner Hargreaves

Johnson Dzeko. Nasri

Against LIverpool

Hart

Richards kompany Lescott Clichy

Yaya Barry Milner

silva
Aguero Balotelli

I'd rotate the entire midfield and forward line, and both full backs

-- Tue Dec 27, 2011 12:13 pm --

The players and manager are psychologically stronger than some of the fans who see "must win" games in December and January.

It's not really anything to do with formations and to an extent even players but it's all about how well they play.Whatever team we throw out ,if they play up to maximum should be enough to win games against teams in the bottom half.

Trouble yesterday was that we came up against a team fired up and well organised and WE didn't play well.Maybe we were at 75% and they ,defensively at least, were at 100%.End result is all we deserved.

He needs to rest a couple of players. This is not a negative but Silva has given the ball away more in the last 3 games more than he has in the whole of the rest of the season, and yaya's influence yesterday was in fits and starts. Both needed for the Liverpool game. I would change them and mario for Johnson, Barry and Edin for Sunderland, the bring them back for nasri and Johnson for the Liverpool game, with Milner out wide.

Sunderland

Hart
Richards Kompany Lescott Zaba

De Jong Hargreaves

Johnson Nasri Milner

Dzeko

I think that will be the type of team we will play and if it is I don see us winning with sunderland on the up and having a new manager.

Liverpool

Hart
Richards Toure Kompany Clichy

Milner Barry

Yaya

Silva Balo Aguero

Sunderland
Hart

Zab Kompany Lescott Clichy

De Jong

Johnson Hargreaves Milner

Nasri

Dzeko

Liverpool

Hart

Richards Toure Kompany Kolarov

Barry Razak Yaya

Silva Balo Aguero[/quote]

I'd go:

Sunderland:

---------------Hart----------------

Savic--Kompany--Lescott--Zabaleta

--------De Jong----Barry-----------

-Johnson------Nasri-------Milner---

-------------Balotelli---------------

Liverpool:

---------------Hart----------------

Richards--Kompany--K.Toure--Clichy

----------Yaya----Barry-----------

--Milner------Aguero------Silva----

--------------Dzeko---------------

The risk is over-rotating for Sunderland and not picking up a crucial win in what will be a very tough game. One thing i'm certain on is that if we go into one game with a lone striker then the lone striker must be Balotelli.

Well its clear that we going to have to use the squad extensively over the two games. I would play De Jong and Johnson in both games mainly because they'll have the freshest legs, I would also expect Hart and Kompany to play both games with the rest rotating.

I would expect Savic to start against Sunderland at right back with Zabaleta swtiched to left (assuming Kolarov isn't fit), with Richards and Clichy saved for Liverpool.

I beleive roberto will play yaya for every minute of every game until he goes to the african cup , O'Neill will have sunderland battling , so NDJ needs to start , Johnson always does well against sunderland , would start him before aguero and dzeko up front for mario. Against Liverpool we need all our ball/skilful players nasri/silva/aguero/balotelli etc , because the scousers will come for a point.

One up front for the Sunderland game - preferably Dzeko.
Hopefully Richards is fit - thought I doubt it. Save him for the Liverpool game if he is not fully fit. Time to give Kollo a go at right full back.
Drop Silva (he needs a rest and is vital for the Liverpool game)
More balls in midfield so for me DeJong IN.

SUNDERLAND
Hart
Kollo Kompany Lescott Clichie
DeJong Barry
Milner YaYa Nasri
Dzeko

LIVERPOOL
Hart
Richards Kompany Lescott Zabaletta
YaYa Barry
Silva Aguero Nasri
Balotelli

-- Tue Dec 27, 2011 8:06 pm --

The main thing is the style of play tough:
- Start Solid - increase the pace as the first haf goes on.
- More balls down the channels rather than Death by passing.
