My old Dad used to tell me that Bill was one of the hardest footballers he had ever seen.Great to see Bill back at city.
Its very similar to the England cricket team, they have their number on their England caps. The Former Players’ Association at City have come up with the idea to create something called the Legacy Project Number Allocation.
David White and Ian Brightwell (with help from others), have gone through the history books and compiled a list from our first ever signing in 1894 to whatever number Nico Gonzalez is, and allocated them a number.
Bill Lievers, in the OP, is number 430, meaning he was the 430th player to play for City.
Glory hunter.Wigan lad.
Would've loved to have seen him in Cherry and White
Love Ratch. Hope he can still play a bit part this year...maybe a last minute conversion at the swamp in the Grand Final. It was on the News this not long ago.
I also heard an interview on the radio with David White, saying how long and painstaking it’s been getting all the numbers correct.
Rugby league teams do this as well, you’ll often see a number under or above the team badge.
For example, Stefan Rarchford here for Warrington, with ‘1097’ above the badge as he was the 1,097th player to play for the Wire.

A nice touch. New signings may learn a bit more about the history of the club and former players if they see their number and how many have gone before them.
