Formula 1 2022

Bet this is going to be good!

After the way the season ended it's obvious why Verstappen decided he wouldn't be in it. Netflix crew hanging around the red bull garage recording conversations in the last race might have been a bit awkward for him.

Will be interesting to see what the rationale and thought process behind that decision. I bet Mercedes are pretty pissed though.

Masi has been let go due to him just being overall not good enough. He's the FIA Solskjaer, an under qualified stop gap who ended up staying in the role far longer than he ever should have done. He had no spine and was dreadfully inconsistent throughout the year.

He's been fucked off because of the scandalous way he handled the last race.

its a very clever move by F1 bosses not sacking Michael Masi but moving him to another post at FIA
if they sacked him then max would have faced being demoted as champion and lewis crown champion.

this way it keeps the wolves from red bull and max door from being called cheaters. lewis will now let it go and move on to the new season and red bull and max will get smashed this season and can not moan about anything

I know it spoils your narrative but Max stopped cooperating with Netflix long before the last race.

It's as good as sacking him. It's now just totally rubber stamped that Masi fixed it.

Well, the continuing influence Mercedes has within F1 couldn’t be clearer. Masi receiving a proposal to accept another job within F1. They had to give Wolff something didn’t they.

Doesn’t change what happened on the day though. Rex Bull attacked during the time cars were following the safety car. They changed tires. Mercedes defended and didn’t change tires. No fault or cheating by the drivers, just their team anticipating on what was going on.

Anyway, the positive from this is teammanagers aren’t allowed to make contact to the jury during the race. That will stop Horner and Wolff moaning and drivers can concentrate on racing.

Oh, and FIA are introducing VAR. Well, if that works as well as in football, teammanagers will still have a lot to moan about.

Keep saying it and you might believe it one day.

Anticipating, or were they in direct communication with race control and dictating what would happen?

There was only one team that 'anticipated' a final lap shoot out.

That really is complete nonsense.

If Masi had followed the rules as they are written the race wouldn't have restarted. Mercedes (and Red Bull) clocked this more or less instantly hence keeping Hamilton out. Running in 2nd place, whatever Lewis did Max was going to be instructed to do the opposite, so once Lewis stayed out Max had to pit and could do so without losing a place. Red Bull knew the race wouldn't restart under normal circumstances hence their lobbying - "we only need one racing lap".

Nobody could 'anticipate' that Masi would restart the race as their was nothing in the rules allowed it. Red Bull fluked the win because Masi thought he'd be congratulated for staging a grandstand finish under green flag racing. He may as well have simply black flagged Hamilton as it had the same effect.

The paranoia about Mercedes influence is absurd. Where was their influence when they were kicked out of qualifying in Brazil for a fractional infringement caused by damage to the wing, but Red Bull received no penalties despite, on multiple occasions, running wings in qualifying that had to be changed for the races? Explain how Mercedes' influence runs so deep that the race director was able to freestyle the rules to hand the World Championship to Max on a plate?

I feel sorry for long-standing fans of motor-racing in the Netherlands as the new generation of Max obsessives have very little understanding of the sport, its rules, history and traditions.

I very much doubt that that interpretation is held by many in the sport.
That's wishful thinking starting from an outcome you want.

Professional teamrunners made a decision which was their only chance of winning.
Changing tyres was their only chance, so they did it. That decision wasn't connected with what happened a few laps later.

they will say it was a hard job for one man to make that call under pressure and a mistake was made and not cheating.
that is why we are moving him on to other things at FIA and bringing in a new team and 2 people to share the role

but your right it was clear cheating and red bull knew what would happen if a safety car was used ? i even think the crash could have been setup as well ? something was not right in that mess at the end. the time it took to clean it up and remove the car and the calls over the radio to say no cars will be allowed to over take then change it at the last moment ? the timing off the crash stinks and having the car in the right place at the right time is not luck
