Stony, it will be a software problem. Missing or wrong installed Drivers most likely.
Maybe you didnt installed everything, so i would get all the CDs and Install VGA/Chipset/Audio/Ethernet/etc again. Thats easy and it will help quickly.
You can also identify what Device is missing or having Problems, like this:
Goto Control Panel
Click on System
Open Hardware tab
Click on Device Manager
GO TO VIEW
SELECT SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES.
Now, look for any yellow exclamation mark Icon in the devices listed. If so, highlight it by clicking on it and then click the REMOVE button. Shut down the computer, then RESTART and XP Pro should find it alone and install.
If that doesnt work, you have to download the newest Driver. Easy install it and it wont appear again.
If you get Problems to indentify the Problem with an "Unknown Device", i will give you a link to a free Software which will automaticly Identify your devices.

Yea, Windows reconized it alone and installed only the sound playback driver, but you didnt install the software AIO drivers so some parts are missing, but they arent important if you hear the Sound and dont need advanced Settings for Audio production and similar.
However, in the Device Manager highlight and disable the "yellow exclamation mark Icon" and you want have the Wizard for New Hardware anymore.
