As it's around 1000 feet to the valley floor, I thought the 'plane may have flown under it rather than above it! It must have been quite a sight from the air, as you'd be at around 35,000 feet at that point.

Spent some time on the Somme this summer. Stunningly beautiful place...with an appalling history. Best holiday in years though, loved it.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, was a long way above it although the plane had probably started its descent by then. Was a nice clear day and I just happened to look out the window and saw it.
Strange thing is, when you’re on the bridge you get no real sensation of the height as it has perspex sides and you can’t really see anything.

Been over that one too, first time we went to france in 1992. Stayed a a campsite called Les Charmettes near the Palmyre Zoo. The girls, now 36 and 32, still say it was the best holiday they ever had.
