And moving De Bruyne to from a sole number 10 to one of 2 number 8's changed his role in the team as well.

Kev has played as the deepest midfielder for quite a few spells in games this season and been incredible there, it makes the most of his passing range and ability to transition us from defence to attack quicker than anyone else. His game wasn't nullified at all.

Hasn't really changed his role though has it? Only big difference in his game is pressing/defensive work. He still has licence to roam the entirety of the pitch..Dinho doesn't have that.

Okay so we play De Bruyne cdm that takes, amongst other things, the crossing out of his game, the thing he's best at in the world, so to say his game wouldn't be nullified is idiotic.

Pep has massively changed KDB's role from the player he was before, how can you not see that!?

Oh and also, KDB made a few crosses during his time as the deeper midfielder, he just made them from deeper.

Massively, how so?

He's gone from being goal scoring #10 to a complete box-to-box midfielder, if you can't see the change that's happened...I'm actually speechless that someone could think De Bruyne's game hasn't changed massively from the player who arrived in 2015 to the one who's playing today.

His role has changed from being the player who plays the final pass or finishes in the final 1/3rd, to being the player who sets up an attack for someone else to play the final pass or finish.

He's gone from searching out space to receive the ball in the final third, to going to get the ball, whether that's in the wide areas or off the CB's.

He's gone from occasionally tracking back but mostly staying free out of possession, to leading the press and being someone who wins the ball back.

He's got a completely different role now to anything he did at Wolfsburg or under Pellegrini.

His game has changed of course. He's improved massively but other than defensively his role in the team hasn't changed massively.

Him and Silva still always seek space in the final 3rd between midfield and defence. Dinho and one of our fullbacks drop in to make that possible.

Dropping deeper and pressing isn't a massive change to his role rather than an addition to what he done before which is primarily playmaking, following the ball around the pitch and making things happen he's always done that since he's been here and continues to do so.
Don't know how he has the most assists in the league if he's no longer playing the final ball.

Sorry but that's simply not true and it should be really obvious to any City fan who watches him week in, week out that his role in the team is different. He's gone from being essentially a finisher (either with shot or last pass) of attacks in the 15/16 side to being it's primary creative force and dictator of possession. It's a complete change of role.

Yep a true box-to-box mid now. Necessary to counter the full-on overload/press against Fernandinho that was causing us all sorts of problems last season. Kev now defends deeper and we have full backs who can cut inside to help cancel out the threat as well. The Pivot has evolved into somthing more flexible. Indeed Kev often drops back into the pivot role himself when space opens up in front of Fernandinho which he now exploits.

I can’t imagine we are light years apart in terms of figures. If Fred wants to make this happen, I am sure he can do. Did Fernandinho not sacrifice a big chunk of money to get the deal done?

Does Fred want come and jump on the Pep train or not? I am sure the question will he asked by Pep of just how much does he want to come.
