I was just bit bored and was on Soccer Manager and came across Freddy Adu, i was wondering if anyone knew what went so badly wrong with him, at one point every big team in the world wanted him and he was the next big thing, i know he went to Benfica but is now currently on loan to Caykur Rizespor, no clue who they are though.

Hes American and like so many other Americans before him he lacks the X factor to be a good player in any of the leagues Europe. I never understood how they do the World Rankings as if the US played games in Europe qualifers they would be struggling big time.

There's a strong rumour his age was faked and he's really 30+.

He hasn't made it anywhere, another overrated wonderkid.

Probably true, Leighton but when we get the The Big Dance itself we usually do OK. I have a thoery that the fact we play in a piss poor zone (CONCACAF) actually holds back our development as a footballing nation. If we were to play uber competitive qualification matches we would raise our game and improve.....

well this is definitely not true.

Why? Kanu and Obefumi Martin are reputed to be much older too, easy to pull off in African countries and Adu was born in Ghana, and there is a guy who claims to have been in his class who is 30+.

Maybe the guy in his class was an idiot and had to repeat the 5th grade 8 times :p

It would help America if "soccer" became more popular. Our best athletes go into football and basketball.
Never is a long time but that will NEVER happen i.e. our best athletes playing football...

He went on trial at united when he was 16/17 and fergie wouldnt have it that he was 16 as he had the body of a 24 year old

Remember Nii Lamptey around 1995ish? Belgian 'wonderkid' who was everyones first purchase on Championship Manager!
Ended up at Coventry after Villa and failed miserably at both clubs.
Looks like Adu has had the same fate.

Lamptey was Ghanaian. If you read the story about his life, especially his childhood, its no reason he failed, its a sad tale. He was cursed from the start.

Im not knocking yous Frank as your record at the World Cup is decent but with your section being so easy to get to your players knows what its like to play in a World Cup. Saying that your record against the European teams in the World Cup is poor.
America playing in Europe would make you better not even Europe even in South American section would push you on but theres also a huge chance that you would miss out on getting to the World Cup finals. I have always wonder if it was a open draws how many teams from each Zone would get to a World Cup I would expect European teams would get the most teams.
