Yep. This is a Mbappe situation (2 years ago). This is where the club will screw up (not Jorginho). We should pay whatever it takes to land this kid. And then De Light next summer.

Depends of course on what Valverde intends to do. Yes, Paulinho & Gomes are effectively gone and figured quite a bit last season and there is Arthur & Samper. Valverde will need to assess how ready both are for 1st team minutes and whether Arthur and/or Samper will be loaned out. Aleñá will likely rotate in the attacking midfield with Coutinho & Denis. Rakitic plays in a variety of positions but ultimately Barcelona need/seek a veteran box to box CM along with a young one to groom.

I would say that while De Jong has to be a priority, he is more a future acquisition that should be tied down sooner than later as his price will continue to go up and others will come with bigger offers. Player prefers Barcelona but RM already have several players who felt similarly and yet never ended up at the club. Instead they need a veteran who can play big minutes straight away with less adaptation than a young player might - hence Rabiot & Thiago being linked
