Frenkie de Jong

I think Tkixi will buy players to tempt Pep to stay longer. He did it with Doku this summer. I wonder who the out of the box signing will be in the summer.

Might be a mad attacking right back!
Reece James might be going cheap early in the season window so Chelsea can fix this years books

De Jong, Kimich , Musiala, Alfonso, these are the types of players the best team in the world should be looking to sign :)
We might, might not I'm not bothered either way. We got to the best team in the world signing the players we signed, not always the biggest or most obvious names.

A wonderful footballer. However, he made the decision of joining a club side on the wane (swayed by the prospect of playing with Messi and enjoying the Mediterranean lifestyle) and he’s been in an international eleven that has, for a variety of reasons, delivered much less than the sum of its individual talents.

Much like Kimmich, I suspect ‘superstar’ players are threatening exit with the intention of then renewing deals on better terms. If the winter window is any indication of the summer ahead, there may be less money around for big transfers and that such shenanigans will be more common.

Unless he’s willing to take a hefty pay cut to come here I just don’t see it, I think the money side of it will play a huge part in any decision we make.
I’m similar to you on the not seeing him much since he’s been at Barca so don’t want to go down the road of saying wherever or not he’s good enough atm.
I did like him a lot when we were originally linked tbf.

His salary is fine, he signed a contract for €14m a year.

The only reason his salary gets reported as being insanely high is because Barcelona deferred 80% of it over covid, so instead of earning €14 for 5 years in a row, he basically earned nothing for the first 2 years and now Barca have to pay him €25m they owe him in backdated wages over the rest of his contract.

Barcelona leaked it when they were trying to force him out last year, reputable Marca journalists confirmed they’ve seen the contract in person.

We pay high wages, if we signed de Jong he’d be on something like £300k/week, which is just the going rate for top signings these days. Kimmich will be on at least that much at Bayern.

Might be depressing to have your manager quit and be below Girona in the table though.
