Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match

Find it hilarious how every rival fan believes WE paid the ref off yesterday.

Ironically his inept performance of not booking any time wasting allowed us to win that penalty so late

Referee was shocking throughout the game,I noted that he was keen to apply the rules regarding the penalty/red card against us.He didn't seem as zealous when applying the rules for multiple other incidents.

I watched the game back last night and in particular the four major incidents. Firstly Fulham's penalty and the sending off. Stupid of Cancelo to do it but I've seen our players barged in the back like that and no penalty given. It's always a gamble though and England couldn't wait to give it.

Secondly Pereira’s foul on Bernardo. It was nasty and malicious, scraping his studs down Bernardo's Achilles and he should have walked. The same player cupping his ear to our fans after he scored then bragging they'd made us suffer post match. Well not as much as our ten men made you suffer you gobshite and all your fouling, cheating and timewasting got you what you deserved, fuck all.

Thirdly Haaland's "goal" Marginal to say the least and it's time these hairline decisions were sorted out. They're always subjective as to exactly when the freeze frame shows the ball left the foot from the pass. If they're that tight then the decision should favour the attacker as they said they would. It's ruining football for the match going spectator I never fully celebrate a goal anymore at the game until var has been applied, then the moment is lost.

Fourthly our penalty. Definite penalty,, you could see it on their defenders face. Good on Kev for going down and making the most of it or it wouldn't have been given.

Great win with ten men and it showed our character and sheer determination and refusal to accept anything less. A phenomenal effort by all concerned.

So every decision that went against us should have been given our way and every decision we got was absolutely correct. Cracking stuff, haha.

I can.

You see similar penalty incidents that end up with no sending off. If there is room to debate it in the rules, which there is, people will debate it.

It is a penalty all day long. But is it denying of a goal scoring opportunity? Any more than a player being brought down by a keeper rushing out getting beat to the ball, or a sliding tackle defender not quite making it? He was at full pace to get to a loose ball, got beat to it, clattered into the player. Clumsy, mistimed, a penalty for sure. Debatable that it is a red though. Could be given and was, could easily not have been. Hence it is being disputed.

Unfortunately its a red all day by the way the law is commonly interpreted. I'd agree with you that he made a genuine attempt to win the ball, however he didn't make any attempt to play the ball.

He was trying to win it with his body and then he would play the ball after winning it. So it wasn't any kind of attempt to play the ball. Not sure what the exact wording of the law is, but that's the way it seems to be reffed generally.

Guessing it's just a one game ban? Anyone know what game he'll miss?

They should be grateful that we stopped Fulham pulling clear of them.

Awful! I have not gone to games for 15 years but it was always the same back then! Imagine going to the cinema and leaving10 minutes before the end to miss the traffic? There is zero excuse no matter how many of the leavers try to justify on these pages!!!! Oh what small lives they lead!!!!
I was at Maine Road in the Kippax.
An appalling game was petering out into a 0-0 draw.
In the final moments I started walking through the tunnel thinking it was pretty much over.
Just exiting the tunnel and a groan like I have never heard before or since was let out.
Luton town had just scored....
Only left early once since then and that was for personal reasons.

He'll miss the chelsea carribean cup game.

I don't completely disagree, as said before, can see it given. Cal also see it not given.

I didn't say that did I? So cracking stuff back at you. I highlighted the four major decisions. I've seen our players barged over in the penalty area more forcibly than Harrison was yesterday and nothing given. I also said I can see why it was given but as I said it's subjective. Is that barge in the back any less of a penalty if the player isn't through on the keeper? No, it's still a foul and penalty, but we've had a fair few of those not given for us. Same as Kev's penalty. Everyone pundit is saying it was soft....but a penalty. Again like theirs and similar ones not given, not just to us but to other teams, it's either a penalty or it's not.

Haaland's "goal" was marginal but if it's offside then it's offside. Again, like all those decisions, one spit second freeze frame differently and it might be deemed onside. I didn't say it was an incorrect decision, just such tight ones like that the decision should go with the attacker for the benefit of all match going fans, otherwise it kills the whole spontaneity and joy of going to a game live.

Pereira’s foul on Bernardo was nasty and should have been a red. So that's ONE decision I disagreed with the ref and var, such snidey fouls need stamping out, no pun intended.

If I wanted to really go to town I could go on about all the timewasting going unpunished, in spite of pigmol and the FA saying it was going to be clamped down on. I could go on about the persistent fouling to disrupt our rhythm not being punished harshly enough. Fulham could have had another player sent off for an accumulation of such and two yellows, if the ref was tough enough.

I joined a growing band of blues who watched the game again this morning, partly because I thought our lads were superb over 96 minutes but partly to look at the so called controversial incidents again. Overall I thought the ref was "poor" because he lacked any consistency, though this lack of consistency was a consequence of the chaos and confusion surrounding guidelines provided by the authorities and the supposedly infallible VAR.

John Stones "goal" was offside and the linesman had no difficulty making the call. Their penalty turned the game on its head and in my opinion was rather more questionable. I'm prepared to accept the decision but note that the powers that be are prepared to accept more physical contact in the game. This seems to operate every where but in the penalty area - every week, and three times yesterday I saw identical charges which were not penalised. Cancelo's charge was certainly not entirely shoulder to shoulder but it was not entirely a push in the back either. Nor was it so vigorous as to be reckless and yet it drew the full monty of penalty and red card. This contrasts with Pereira's "tackle" on Bernado which saw his studs scrape down Bernado's leg and ankle a distance away from the ball, causing great pain and risking serious injury but only meriting a yellow card. An interesting scale of values from the authorities. And the foul on KdB didn't merit any card though Kev was kicked on the back of the ankle so it was difficult to claim there was much of an attempt to play the ball. Then there was the offside which ruled out Erling's goal. Spot on decision only if you ignore the fact that body parts in the air are actually in motion (in this case jumping) match stats show this clearlyand so probably are too quick for the freeze frame' and you're actually looking for a reason to disallow a goal. VAR's role seems not to apply the laws impartially but to justify its own existence by being party poopers.

I'd actually looked forward to seeing Fulham but they were dreadful. I have to agree with posters last night who argued that they were little more than fouling, shirt pulling time wasters. The match stats show this clearly. Thankfully our lads were superb ...and to see two true blues come on as subs was unbelievable. Well played our boys.
